My take on the only way specialists can work in this game

Now without doubt, I'd prefer original classes but if EA/DICE are insisting on specialists in the next installment, there's some things I hope they'd take into consideration.

1, Make specialists look like soldiers instead of something out of Fortnite, Destiny or Apex. These current models simply just don't fit a BF game. I mean, what the hell are these skins? What game is this? These are not soldiers.

2, Give specialists realistic, gritty in game voice lines like in past BF games and make them fit the vision of the game. They need to fit the global situation. If that's gritty then they need to be so also.

3, Think about how specialists would fit into a class system without shoehorning them into one. Their perks gadgets & weapons need to synergise with one another.

For example, Paiks sniper rifle profficiency doesn't synergise whatsoever with her short range EMG-X scanner etc etc. I could go on and on here. Maybe think about introducing new classes if you can't get the synergy right.

4, Massively tone down special abilities by introducing longer cooldowns & gadget usage limitations and a need to resupply. Also tone down the ability in general.

For example - Mackay's grappling hook. Give him 1 or 2 hooks maximum and then a need to resupply for more. He could set up a climbing/abseiling rope for him and his team. He shouldn't be able to hook onto things like he's something out of Quake Champions which is a fictional arena shooter that defies the laws of physics. This should apply to all specialists. Tone it down massively. Specialists like sundance shouldn't be able to wingsuit off of a tiny rock. Zain shouldn't get infinate explosive spam etc etc.

5, Give specialists separate factions so they don't all look the same and players don't get confused who they're engaging.

6, Make specialists a lot more customizable so there's more individuality and exclusivity. Sell models in the store but let players apply colours and camo's. Don't rip players off by selling the same models but with different colours. Don't forget it's not a free to play game.

7, As a general rule make support players a more desirable pick to encourage teamwork.

8, Think about how these specialists work on every type of map so map diversity isn't totally destroyed. I think we'd all like to see real urban, naval and CQC maps again. Specialists would need to work on all maps. 32 dozers on a metro map just won't work.

I think it has been proven over and over in BF2042 that specialists cannot work in a Battlefield game. That regular classes are needed for balance or all chaos ensues.

It’s frustrating to play i.e. Engineer right now because nobody drops ammo so you can’t restock your gadgets.

I realize it’s to encourage team play but in reality hardly anyone runs with ammo.

The next game has to be grounded in reality and not in wishful thinking about encouraging team play.

@sk1lld Yeah its just absolute chaos the way it is right now. I also think specialists ruined map diversity we've seen in previous games and introduced insane verticality instead.

Maps like Metro would just be a meat grinder with the way things are right now.

@VOLBANKER_PC Yeah I've always thought the support players need buffing and that there should be a better points system for supporting other players. Also there should be more sources of ammo like maybe picking it up from vehicles as an example.

The game has a serious identity crisis. It is two different games in one, which normally doesn't work like we have seen with this BF2042 dumpster fire.

They should've called this Battlefield: The Specialists or something like that and purposely went hard with that route like Hardline.

However, they needed more than one faction with the same specialist abilities. Like some of the modes, they should've restricted the Specialists per squad (so you can't have 4 Mackays). Then went with different game modes like Hazard Zone, Capture the Flag, King of the Hill, Domination, etc.

No Conquest, Breakthrough, and Rush with Specialists. Leave that for Portal, where you could play all those modes as BF4, BF3, BFBC2, or BF1942 soldiers with the appropriate class restrictions.

My take on this is the only way to make specialists work is to have a server browser, because then people wouldn’t care that there specialists.

actually, it’s more than that, a proper team oriented setup, with continuous squads through a map rotation would allow people to properly self organise and achieve something of an organised play style, especially with a group of random players. Which is the only way to get the most out of specialists roles.

also, find some way to ensure visibility of specialists roles from a distance.

It's only going to get worse.  I suspect the new throwable ammo will only supply primary/secondar ammo, and that more people will now choose those over crates because they are more mobile.  Which could mean even fewer chances to pickup gadget ammo.....

Fingers crossed they work in the same way as the BF1 packs, but you're probably on to something there.
