@ATFGunrI think the "catch up" mech. might still be in BFV, but they just made it not as egregious. Either way the current neutralize vs capture time in 2042 is terrible and way way too slow to neutralize vs capture.
100% agreed. This is a very unwelcome change.
I think the idea is to discourage solo capping and it's pretty effective at that. Particularly when you factor in the distance between flags.
Do I really want to take a 300m hike over to that empty flag where I'll have to defeat 3-4 defenders spawning in - perhaps multiple times - just for a chance to cap the flag? All the while hoping that an enemy vehicle doesn't decide to pay me a visit? Not really, but sometimes if your team needs flags it's the only logical strategic move. With the faster caps from past games you could generally count on just a couple defenders spawning in which was much more manageable.
If only I didn't care about winning I'd join my zerg of friendlies that insist on clustering around just 1 or 2 flags.
BF2042 really punishes people who break away from the pack. There's some good and bad in that. The good is that it encourages teamplay. The bad is that it encourages teams to bunch up into a strategically inefficient brainless mass frustrating those people who want to win.

Needs to be faster
- kregora3 years agoSeasoned Ace@AngrySquid270 Fast caps in past Battlefield titles went with being able to spawn on the flag, and not in 100-200m distance from the capture area. So the slow captures go with the terrain.
And since most players capture alone and not in squads, that makes solo capturing especially tedious. - JD_W0LF3 years agoSeasoned Veteran

Good points, but Dice didn't seem to account for the massive amount of players always ready to spawn with 128p games. I get the IDEA behind the one point - not wanting solo capture - but making it THIS slow to neutralize punishes the team already at a disadvantage with the flag being enemy.
They went way too far in one direction. They didn't account for adding slower neutralize AND DOUBLING player counts, and it made the issue exponential.
It doesn't just make sure solo caps are hard (impossible, even), it makes it so single and maybe even double SQUAD capture is hard. Harder than defending by their own choice. The sheer amount of people likely to be ready to spawn within the LONG time to neutralize is so high with 64-player teams. You can have probably HALF the damn team spawning back over that time, while 4-8 people just sit there waiting and having to fight them off. Not to mention the extra time allows vehicles to scream over there super fast. I really think they compounded whatever idea they had and went over the line with the change.
Speaking of the cluster of zerging players: it just compounds THAT issue too! You mentioned discouraging players from wanting to go out of their way to travel to flags... this was already an issue in previous games, but now we have double size maps, with slow neutralize, and double size teams. Of course nobody is going to want to do anything hard... it really creates more than one problem.
