But look at those characters. They could easily be characters from Battlefield 2042. And the characters from BF2042 are themselves a ripoff of the style of characters found in certain other shooters.
I gotta say: This makes me sick.
Why is everybody copying each other so that so many shooters nowadays are hero shooters with exactly the same style of characters / costume items?
Make the games unique! And start by making Battlefield go back to it’s roots instead of chasing this hero fad!
Edit:
I mean future Battlefield games, not that changes should be done to this one which has reached end of development,
Why are you trying to be so cryptic? What game are you talking about exactly? You can talk about other games on the forums.
@RaginSamI think OP might be referring to Concord https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/002/829/075/b62.png
Makes me wanna redeploy. Dear god.
I really wish Battlefield did NOT go in that direction, especially since it started heading this way with BFV and continued now with 2042. Though I'm conceptually fine with hero shooters (specifically Team Fortress 2 or Dirty Bomb), I feel like I might be getting burnout on seeing *that* kind of hero shooters. Like zombie games or open world survival craft games.

@Lady_OneIf that's the game they're referring to, I don't get the connection what so ever...
Games take years to develop, so this game has probably been in development at least since the release of 2042, but more likely before it was even in Beta. Hero shooters had an uptick in popularity for a while, but they died back down. It's always going to be a thing going forward however. I personally enjoy quite a few of them. I get if you don't, but what do they have to do with Battlefield?!
BF2042 might have some very light inspiration from the Hero Shooter genre, but it's always had classes. I absolutely despise Mil-Sim games, but have always loved the BF games. It never felt like they were tying to be at all realistic. My impression was that it was a military themed sandbox that was closer to an Arena shooter then it was to a Simulator of any sort.
The Specialist didn't work in BF2042 because it threw off balancing and added annoying to deal with mechanics. It wasn't the worst idea, but BF2042 has a lot of nuanced issues. It's really close to being a great game, but all the little things add up to something that I can't stomach anymore.
I don't think anyone has any idea what the next BF is going to be like. No matter what, don't pre-order it!- Lady_One2 years agoNew Ace@RaginSam For me personally, I was hoping I'd get to make my own soldier in 2042, alongside the now gone custom emblems there were in BF4, or Origin profile pictures like in BF1.
I am happy with removing weapon restrictions and some other things like the + menu. I am happy with how classes are now, having those 3 very specific class gadgets always available (I dunno if the medpen for assaults is quite right) and still giving you 2 choices.
A good chunk of the specialists at launch were annoying. The end of round quips were annoying and clashed with the tone. And you HAD to listen to them, no quitting while McBabyface is speaking unless you outright close the game. You still can't leave the match when it's ending, but at least no more quips and babyfaces.
Specialists have been improved, but I don't think it's unfounded to be afraid that what 2042 fixed might return unfixed in the next game, even if it's not specialists in particular. Hardline basically dropped BF4's visual recoil fix like a hot potato. How about the improvements Hardline added, like blue friendly incendiaries or purchasing weapons to unlock them? Map votes from BF1? We're 10 or so years past BF4 now and that visual recoil fix is needed more than ever. At least the objective and teammate icon size and transparency settings BF4 introduced have stuck around, but what else will stick around and what won't? Will we get a not-a-scoreboard again? Or will it be something new and fun, like getting kicked if you crouch more than once near a corpse or after killing someone?
At least Concord is its own original IP though, rather than making changes to an existing one for global contemporary modern audiences.
