The real problem with this PC v Console discussion is what DICE have done to make gamepad players more competitive. Let's just call it what it is: software-based cheating for gamepad/console users. The handicap for gamepads against M&K players is a .8 FSM and bonuses to their TTK, DICE have built cheating into their game for console/gamepads. To be competitive with a PC, it feels like to me, you need to have AT LEAST a third of a second lead on a console player before his aimbot sees you.

I stopped playing the PC version completely and only do console now. It's useless to get a game going in EU with just PC, pretty much always empty or 3-4 people waiting. Crossplay with aim-bot/aim-assist just makes you rage quit eventually. If honestly I had started with the PC version instead of console I probably wouldn't be still playing at all. Used to love BF on PC but those days are long gone.

And that's valid. I think it's just something EA/DICE haven't figured out yet. The question of "How can you have crossplay servers with consoles and PCs with a mix of gamepads and M&Ks, and allow for competitive play?" really is tough. Personally, I think you nix the console/gamepad aim assist altogether because it's software-based cheating, and you allow console players to use M&K. If console players are allowed to use M&K and the player knowingly uses another input device that, on average, is technically slower (gamepad), then there should NOT be software that handicaps others because others (even if it is a significant portion of the population) choose to use an inferior input device.
- Alethes2 years agoSeasoned Ace@CH34TC0D3 in theory you're correct. I'm all for discarding aim assist (since BF3) and then all consoles are equally leveled re. gameplay. However, I'd never play any game with M&K as I either play standing up or sitting on the couch...

Yeah, it’s just a theory. I’m definitely not trying to convince anyone to pick one input device over another. There was a time when I played with a console and a gamepad, too.
Just look at it this way, if the competitiveness of this game was about skill, we would all do whatever we could to be the fastest gun in the West. And in FPS games (the ones that don’t offer aim assist and first-shot multipliers. and increased or decreased Time to Kill based on your input device or system), it is about who’s faster. But, 2042 just simply isn’t‘ really a skill-based title. It’s a “we need to sell games” title. It’s about how many copies of the game EA/DICE can sell and unfortunately for PC players, we have to suffer through the handicap.
Just give me BFV with anti-cheat. Loved that game and hackers ruined it.
