I would expect a similar level of requirements to BFV but naturally moved up a few generations of hardware to enable to updated game engine ect.
If the PC version is the same as the next-gen consoles (which it probably is), then the requirements could be higher than BFV. The new consoles has a lot of CPU/GPU-power compared to the old consoles and this could mean that 6C, 4C/8T CPUs and 'older' GPUs (GTX10xx) will become minimum specs. The new consoles has more GPU-power than a GTX1080 and more or less the same CPU-power as a Ryzen 7 2700...
BF1/BFV was already struggling a lot with minimum specs (the BF-forums was full of complains about this) and thinking that BF2042 runs well on a 7 year old PC will probably not be realistic.
Personally I think CPU-usage could be the biggest issue, graphics can more easily be 'scaled down' than things like player-count, destruction, physics etc.
But again we will have to see, it is all just speculation at this point.

They have to be careful in this respect because of the ridiculous gpu shortages
- 5 years ago@emerson1975 so true, if that situation isn't solved soon (most likely won't) I think the number of people playing the game in 128 player matches will be a bit low. Last time I read about it the new gen consoles are still being scalped and are rare to come by...
