Please, DICE: enable persistent servers and map rotations
This thread is directed first and foremost to EA/Dice directly, so I would directly request a response to the proposal from @Straatford87 @PartWeIsh or someone that works directly with the developers that remain working on BF2042, even though there might now only be a handful of them. In it I propose how you could -- with basically ZERO effort -- improve the experience of all players.
No fundamental changes are needed, you would only have to do what you did before again. And all would be a bit happier!
We would (again) also ask for a status report if you are already implementing this for S1 or to tell that there was decision to kill of the game faster by not implementing it. We know that you read our posts, so no response would in that case also mean that you do not care.
It is not the first time I propose this and even though it ONLY got positive feedback so far, it was always burried much too deep in other unrelated threads (or in the initial thread that was DELETED!, even though there was no profanity, no insults, nothing even remotely warranting its deletion), so I want to address you directly in this new one once again (at moderators, please refrain from merging this to some other place before there is an official reply. Thank you!).
ALL of the following problems would be addressed with the proposal:
Match making every round
Squads being ripped apart after a round
Multiple squads from the same gaming community that spend quite some time to be able to finally join the same server being separated and having to repeat this again for the next round
Having to play the same map multiple times (or having to cancel match making repeatedly)
Not being able to play a desired map the whole evening, simply because you are never matched into a server running this map (especially important once we get the SINGLE new map you by now told us will arrive with S1)
You can solve ALL of the above mentioned problems (most likely more) by doing one simple thing; one thing we KNOW FOR A FACT is possible RIGHT NOW and that you actually DID BEFORE several times already.
The proposal would be for you to do what you did when you created the Rush playlist. But instead of Rush, do that with the current AoW game modes.
That is ALL you have to do, create an official Portal experience, give it the current default/vanilla BF2042 rules (and full XP like you can do for the official modes), place all current BF2042 maps in the rotation (for the 64 player modes maybe with the existing maps from Portal) and then replace the buttons in the main menu to match make players into those servers instead of spawning new instances for one match only.
That is everything you need to do to make playing the game for all players so much better. I guess this is a job one engineer can do in an hour, a day at most (not sure about the main menu part, but you did that before with Rush and the other official modes, so we know it is possible on the fly without patching the game as well).
It will not split the player base as with this change, the current BAD system with match making every round would not be used/required anymore.
So, we KNOW it is possible, we KNOW it will solve ALL the problems outlined (many are still remaining of course, but it is a start and costs you virtually nothing).
Just in case if I forget to mention that explicitly before: with a completely negligible amount of work on your end you can improve the experience for all players.
- @DuaneDibbley I would love for them to try to join the same server in AOW without being in a group. Then after that round ends, see where they end up if they are not already in a group.
Also, I would rather wait in queue to join a low ping server than to join one with a high ping immediately.
I also like to know the map rotation of the server I am on. I would play for hours when I can just stay on the same server. I got to know a lot of the other usual suspects. Now I play one round with random players, and get almost a completely random set of players the next round. Why?
