In my defense, I said ALMOST nobody.
~100 players or some number near it is close to nobody for the scale of a mainstream game in a Battlefield series, a single 128 man server can have more people. They would be rather few even for a small indie game.
I will not say that there cannot be people who like it, but even near launch, the numbers were much smaller than what DICE would consider worth their resources.
But it is nice that they did eventually patched some stuff for HZ.
I pre-ordered 2042. At launch the HZ was a complete mess. And very restricted with what one could bring in, even had that currency going that really was a turn off for most players.
But eventually they refined the HZ, removed the currency, made it more basic and easier to jump in for people that was not interested using 10 rounds just to understand the dynamic. It is Still not obvious for first time players, but its good compared to what it was.
It's mostly level 200 - 999 players that play hz as regulars.
I am a diehard bf fan from the original Battlefield 2, and so far in bf 2042 the focus was too much on grindy crammed maps. The big maps at launch was a fresh breeze to the bf era, tho little bit empty maps.. (hourglass v1 in mind). And the whole buggy game at launch did not help.
I think HZ does really have potential, if it get a little fineadjusting/expansion and a more immersive intro for firstimeplayers, i think it will flourish.
it have changed the mecanics from launch, and got a bad rumor because of the launch edition.
Besides, to say that HZ damaged the bf2042 in whole is a little bit extreme when it comes to how * the game was overall at launch.

Perhaps it is a bit extreme but let me explain my thought process.
Both BFV and BF2042 have had a special mode that defined the initial design philosophy of the game they were in.
BFV was designed to accommodate Firestorm and so the main game started having those premade semi customizable soldiers and changed the gameplay of the main game to have BR style attrition and lost us the manual 3D spotting from previous games.
BF2042 was allegedly designed to be a game that played very different from what we got at beta and launch. It is said that they had to pull the brakes and make a U-turn and try to make it into a more normal BF game.
Hazard zone is sort of a remnant of what they were trying to make instead of BF2042. The same goes for the Specialists which are kind of like the Operators from other games (Apex etc)
In both games all this stuff diverted resources and time that could have been more maps and a more polished game at launch.
I am not that great with putting my thoughts into words but I believe this sentiment is shared with quite a few people here
