Thought some Series X only servers might have had a decent population this early in the game. But the XP loss is an obvious turn off for most people.
As a pc player with crossplay turned on portal mode has not had a full server in awhile but there is a few active rooms to get into.
Too me this is like battlefield hardline all over again in terms of population decline.
About 3PM PST and I open my PS4 copy of the game on my PS5..... With x-play turned on, I am currently seeing a lot of servers up in Portal. .....more than I care to count honestly. With it off I see:
13 Conquest servers
4 Rush
3 Custom.
When I open the PS5 version of the game and turn off X-Play I see:
17 Conquest
4 Rush
6 Custom
Again, with x-play on, there are plenty. Even Rush has 44 servers running and about as many in Custom. ....a little surprised there is more activity on PS5 than PS4 actually.
Anyhow, I get that XBX would have lower engagement than PS5 but something I considered is that perhaps many don't know x-play is on? Maybe it's a matter of people feeling like there aren't enough servers available without it being turned on so they simply leave it on? Sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

And what are the pings/player count
I can take a image and be like look 31 portal rooms oh wow its so populated but only 3 are usually north america and all but a handful have a player count. Saying 27 rooms worldwide is very said in compassion to the potential player count.
Yes portal is worldwide by default there should be multiple pages not 1
Ping: On PS5.... 17 are less than 100 (ranging from 25 to 75). 25 are up to 150 and the rest are above. I'm not going to list out all the player counts as the limits and populations vary.
I'm just providing input on what I'm seeing at this moment. I'm not challenging what you're seeing on your end or suggesting anyone is exaggerating their situation. It's obviously going to be different for me.
That is discouraging. I guess I'm lucky. .....not because I'm seeing more servers on PS5 but because I mainly bought the game to create private matches for solo and with my friends. Still, that doesn't bode well for the health of Portal if it continues like this.
