Proper HUD Transparency

Hi,

I'm not even sure if this is the right place for a feedback, I don't have Twitter to reach out to the DEVs and I really don't want to make one just for this.

So, when I read about the HUD opacity options in the earlier update notes, I was really looking forward to it. I'd like to note that I play on an OLED TV, and I know that Burn-In takes a long time to even be an issue. Which is fine you know, for single player games, because you play them and then you move on. I'd love to play this game, I have nothing against that bright blue but it plants a seed in my head every single time I play it.

The problem is, the recent opacity options don't seem to affect any of the screen elements in the way I hoped it would, you can basically dim the opponents, your teammates (which I don't need since they're not static), but for example the "Player info", which is on the right side of the screen, that bright blue thing is absolutely unaffected by any of the changes (at least in my experience). Sure I can bring down my OLED brightness, I have the Logo luminance on high, but it's still there. It's still super bright.

If this is seen by anybody that can pass the info to the right person, please do, if you could look into it, I think it would be a massive help for a lot of us on OLEDs just to calm our nerves down. What I thought this whole opacity update would be was, that we could customize the whole screen. It's in Battlefield 1, that's literally 100% perfect! Battlefield 5 didn't have those options unfortunately, but the whole HUD was a lot more, well... simplistic. Here we have what we have, which, again, I'm not against it in any way or form, I'd just love to see an option to make it transparent, to dim it down. If I turn my HUD off, I have no clue who's an enemy or a teammate, they look the same.

Thank you and have a nice day!

  • That is totally what's needed , u are absolutely right. I play Apex A LOT and i have burn in already visible on gray and red. It doesn't affect the hole picture yet. BUT the problem is real.

    My oled is C7 model.

  • I’m in the same situation. I have an OLED, and Apex has killed my tv with burn in of the Apex HUD/GUI. I won’t play Apex Legends anymore until they release a patch for a transparency option - as I don’t want further damage to occur. Please fix this EA / Respawn!

    @ishdidonaHi mate
I tried bringing this issue to the attention of the devs before but nothing was done.
A few updates down the line and they still haven’t given us a fully customisable HUD.
Which basically means they won’t be doing anything about it.

Regarding a previous post.. this is indeed the right place for feedback. Just don’t expect any response.

This is a copy paste of what I messaged a dev back in May…

Hi mate. I have a request to the devs as a regular gamer and primary player of Battlefield.
Regular gamers generally have higher end monitors/ TV’s.
This will typically include Oled’s of varying types. Personally, I have 3x LG oled’s TV’s and have just bought a new one.
One thing that is usually a concern for gamers, whether they use a monitor or tv, is image retention.
Tech has come a long way and manufacturers have implemented techniques and features that help combat image retention. However, there is only so much you can do as a manufacturer and consumer.

I have all necessary features enabled on my tv to help.

However, I really do think that game devs should be more mindful of the stresses placed on monitors and TVs by games.

I have been calling for more HUD customisation for a long time. Not just for gaming preferences but to also safeguard my hardware.

We really do need to be able to remove various elements of the HUD.
We need to be able to remove the ammo / weapon display, the mini map, we need to be able to independently adjust soldier hip fire crosshairs AND vehicle crosshairs.

I have the mini map OFF on all my servers, yet it remains on-screen with “map offline” flashing continuously on screen. This is far from ideal. It is distracting and potentially damaging to my tv.

Can you please forward these concerns to the devs as I really do think they should be considering these issues.

At the moment, we can either have the HUD on or have it off. This again is not ideal because if we turn the HUD off, it also removes all world icons (objectives, friendly/ enemy icons etc).

We need more comprehensive options available.

    Thanks

Great post, and a very real issue.

In a lot of ways BF2042 and in particular the game developers have gone down the wrong road, sound is terrible, and glitchy as heck.

Picture quality of the game leaves a lot to be desired too, but, that's because we play on PS5's and graphics were cut down for console gamers because they say our consoles can't handle it unlike PC players with dedicated graphics cards etc. I still recall all the hype about how powerful the graphics were going to be on the New PS5 !

However, Image Burn is a real thing, and especially if you play a lot. Our TVs are very blinking expensive, and we deserve to have the option to have the HUD moveable.

How about the option to have it at the top left or right, the same with having it at the bottom, or, and this is really out there, how about being able to turn it OFF completely. It really should be your choice.

Lastly, shame again about the sound quality of this game. Denon amp, 7 Q Acoustics speakers and an 8K TV and the sound is this rubbish in this day and age. Pretty much ALL the weapons sound the same anyway.

@80uwjx4m1chc And like you, I run a full home cinema setup - a 7.4.4 atmos setup.
I have less of an issue with sound although it could be a lot better. With the inaccuracy it footstep sounds being my main pet hate in this game.
I’m hoping that Sony’s upcoming Dolby atmos support breathes more life into the sound in the game.
