Proximity chat, what are your thoughts?

Hi guys, first time posting something to discuss with the community, so… let's start it.

What are your thought about having a proximity chat?

I've been wondering how amazing that would be since bf1 when you're laying down in the mud with your comrades aside trying to survive a massive strike from enemies. I think that would be an incredible feature to the game, since it adds to it.

In BFV I remember seeing a focus on team play and that was very cool, in some moments I could feel like playing with a tactical squad chasing tanks and flags. However, sometimes only your squad is not enough you gather with others during the match to accomplish something, and you miss communication with them in the spur of the moment.

Well, I've been thinking a long time about it and why they have not implemented it, maybe 'cause they want us to focus on squad play or something like that, or even 'cause it's not worth it. What you guys think? Is that something that adds?

  • Dice would have to implement a good proximity chat ban system like MW2 as the 5% toxic gamers gets old real quick.  That toxic 5% run around pretending to be 7ft 4 and 450lb triple blackbelt warriors and simply won't shut up and just play the game...

Open up twitch and watch the famous female MW2 gamer (name starts with "N"...ends in "A"...she plays with XQC at times).  She is good but not close to pro level, yet the real reason she gets thousands of viewers is because she runs with a stacked team and is verbally toxic 24/7 and they can't really ban her as she is too popular and promotes MW2.  Not sure Dice wants to deal with this...if so, good luck...👿

  • It seems less than 1% of randoms use the current VOIP feature, I suspect proximity VOIP wouldn't see any more use.

I'm not against it, I just don't think the community would take advantage of it.

I like the thought of proximity chat. Instead of just talking to your squad, any players nearby can pick up on your feed and do some team play. Unfortunately no acts as a team these days. Everyone plays solo, unless you gather a team manually.

@AngrySquid270I used VOIP but had to switch it off as every 10 or so games, some young kid would be screaming at 20,000 hertz on the mic and not the best vibe for relaxing while gaming.

Also the unintended heavy mouth breathing "ASMR" was a little weird...🤔

Dice did not allow a quick way to set the VOIP volume separately as far as I could tell on console...

That said, it was interesting hearing all the spouses/girlfriends screaming for their partners to get the hell offline...🙂

This.  Look at chat after a game and it is filled with EPEEN.    I hate to say this but

Many people play FPS games as a tool for self esteem.   As long as stats like Kills, KD ratio, death tracking etc are public, you will have a toxic environment.
