Forum Discussion
I knew from my readings in the forum that controllers have their problems like M&K.
From PC side, Dice worked on it and M&K seems better, but we still have problems and we still suffer from strange false mouse inputs... Soo i guessed it was mostly the same with controllers.
My question was most about the variations. When a system fails, it usually do something garbage.. but it may do a miracle.
@erickonasis32 I don't know anything about your settings on consoles, "70/20" you can adjust different levels?
In this case it might be impossible to find how to reproduce what 've seen.
On M&K i have seen on rare occasions my shot do weird lucky hit, and thought: "hum, thanks Dice the hitmox is a joke or the server is laggin but from here i thought this shot was a miss."
Soo i asked myself, do controller users have sometimes this feeling about aim assist, like "it's borderline working 99% of the time, but one shot over 10000 is godlike".
Ok all of this discussion wouldn't change anything about the game, we would prefer a stable system i think we all agree. This is more a philosphical question, to undersatnd how it works.
Thanks you all guys for your answers.
Framerate on PC is really bad too. My PC is 4 years old but still decent (I7 7700 / GTX 1070 / 32Go ram), it runs well most of the games i play with, except this BF. All on lower graphics 1080p i have huge frame drops and 128 players is unplayable for me.
In BF2042 most PC players have really low FPS and can be compared to last gen consoles. Some PC players have an advantage but most of the time it's not as huge as you seems to think.
But yes, if you get a 5000€ PC from daddy and internet with optic fibre, you will score a lot and claim that you have more skill than others on Twitch...
😉
It's another subject, but i've read that the guys from Dice who created the Frosbite Engine at Dice all left the studio slowly years after years. And now Dice struggle with their own engine... Don't know if it's true mbut it seems credible.
The next gen consoles are bouncing between 40 to 60. They are not stable 60 during combat.
It's like a cheat in the game it only takes a few PC players with high end systems to ruin it for every console player.
As far as aim assit it's a complete joke. It's more like the stars have to aligned to get it to work. So no it's not 99% of the time working.. its maybe once a match it will snap aim. Snap aim does nothing for horizontal and vertical tracking. Making tracking pc players extremely frustrating do to keyboard movement is more erratic then what you can do on a controller. Sticky aim assit is completely missing.

@xXHappy_PuppyXxThat makes me wonder how much of a benefit/where the diminishing returns are for FPS when the tickrates for the servers are relatively low (I think 45hz?) when in older games they would be 60+.
(FWIW I run at 4K on a 120hz screen with g-sync turned on, generally average between the 90-120fps range depending on what's going on) - 5900x/3080/32GB DDR4/etc
- xXHappy_PuppyXx4 years agoRising Ace@Anobix I'm pretty sure past BFgames at least BF1 and 5 were 30.
Thing is I dont have these issues with BF5. There are so many issues with 2042.
Still how would you like to play at half your current framerate, with resolution dynamically changing every few secs while using a controller... then be told you have to play people using your rig.
Crossplay should of never included PC.. you just cant balance it.- Anobix4 years agoSeasoned Ace@xXHappy_PuppyXx Oh I completely agree with you. I didn't play much 1 or 5 [very very little, in-fact], as I enjoyed BF4 and moved on to other games before 2042's launch.
I would hate to play with the limitations that you mentioned, it's why I spent around $2Kish on my PC so I wouldn't have to. I just want it to be balanced for console folks when I'm playing with/against them. There are definitely some guys that I've played with that are quite solid when playing with a controller, but I understand that it has its limitations (and that is the reason why I don't play an FPS with one -- that and 20+ years of competitive FPS muscle memory of playing with a KB/M...)
I remember when Shadowrun came out for the Xbox 360 and had crossplay with PC (and was one of the first, if not the first to do it), that was one of the view examples of console players having an advantage due to the amount of aim assist it granted to controller players with an enormous cone of accuracy.

As i said, most PC players do not have those high end and expensive PCs... I'm far from having 60 stable FPS in this game. I can see going to 90's in best scenarios but i can go bellow 30 in a big fight too...
Yes most PCs can be compared to last gen consoles in performances. And we have the same difficulties against players with thousands of euros PC owners.
But let's stay on the subject of controllers input instead of PCs vs Consoles please.
😉
Increasing your FPS is a huge advantage ingame, server tickerate is another thing.
You have a beastly PC i wish i had one like this, but i would have stay on a 1440p monitor with higher refresh rate (instead of 4K/120Hz) to max out this power beast ingame.
But i guess your pc is not built only to play First Person Shooters.
😇

@l_Grand_Vizir_lOh I know that FPS increases are a big advantage, granted I think in older games the FPS drastically changed your physics and in some cases the amount of dps/damage/bullets that would shoot or the ability to do advanced motion techniques (I played team fortress classic competitively for years, and bunny hopping and grenade jumping, etc was a necessary skill to have).
Correct, it doesn't just play FPS games. I'm fortunate enough to have a PS4/5 and a Switch so I have my pickings of the platform to play different types of games on as well.
But yes, controller input is definitely not my method of choice. Occasional I will 'slum' it when playing with my buddies in Halo when they are all controller players, I still do well (after years of playing FPS games), but not as well as I do with the ol faithful mouse and keyboard 🙂Oh, and for what it's worth, I appreciate being able to have a conversation without all PC players being accused to be hackers/exploiters/low-skill due to input choice 😉
