In most make-believe war-story Movies , it's the 'Let's Go!' Soldiers who speaks those last three lines of the OP's post who are then in the next scenes blown to smithereens .
In most real-life war-movie Stories , these sources tend to be from Soldiers who'd been cautious and taken their time , to have seen such things and then lived to tell of it .

Meanwhile , in BFV . . .
I'm 3-12 after a whole round sitting on the SAA .
A very good Assault is going an impressive 36-9 .
He's 4-for-1 and I'm 1-for-4 ; a case of bad Math for me .
Here though these Maths come out of hiding .
Guessing the BFV-as-a-whole averaged KDR at 1.5 , I'll be generous and say 2.1
Thus , by killing 36 Enemy the Assault has theoretically saved 75 Mates Lives .
Who are now free to go on to killing 150+ Enemy .
On the SAA all round , I fought off a Pilot accustomed to achieving +100-0 Stats .
He ended up at 25-3 (8-to-1!) but (again theoretically) I too saved 75 Mates Lives .
Who are now free to go on to killing 150+ Enemy .
. . .
I ain't doing nothing back here , literally , except Cap this undefended far Flag .
Again and again .
First Enemy recap party contained only two (6%) , I hid , they left , I re-capped .
Then four showed up (12.5%) , they couldn't find me and left , I re-capped .
Then six show up and the story goes into these hidden Maths as well :
One Player has drawn almost 20% of Enemy forces away from Mates .
I haven't killed anybody this whole time , but . . .
For a while for each searcher , neither have they either .
