Rant of veteran

First, my background.

I started Battlefield adventure with BCBF2.
I still remember the thrills gotten by trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gmcg6F4BeUE
Till today, this is my favourite game trailer 🙂 In fact, this was the thing convincing me to purchase BC2 and try online competition.

I played every single battlefield game since then:
BFBC2 - 500-1000hrs (can only estimate, pre-origin times)
BF3 - 790 hrs
BF4 - 1713 hrs
BF: hardline: 26 hrs (till now the worst crap I have ever played)
BF1 - 351 hrs
BFV - 1062 hrs
BF2042 - 23hrs and uninstall. Worse than hardline. Worst crap I have ever played.

Last but not least - I was always lover of rush mode. In most cases - very tense and dynamic mode. Conquest is dull for me (just running from one flag to another, in extreme cases can win the game without shooting any enemy - bleh). After the rush was no more, breakthrough was kind of prosthesis replacement.

With such experience, I dare to say, I am battlefield veteran.

I also need to say, that I would not buy BF2042 ever. I was expecting this is pure *, just by looking on the marketing materials. Despite my resistance, I was gifted by friend of mine. Due to this fact, I was really trying to give this crapy game a lot of chances, yet I can't stand this anymore.

I uninstalled today, and this is just forgotten thing for me since now on.

Need to mention, that game's price is not an issue to me at all. I could easily purchase ultimate editon, if I see it worthy to play. Simply, I did not. My fried was much more optimistic, unfortunately...

I am gonna share my feelings, hoping that someone in EA will read, and maybe just try to understand, what to do in the future, to attract people like me. I don't believe 2042 can be fixed in any way - effort needed to do so, is greated than creating new game in battlefield franchise.

Having this long introduction behind, just briefly I will state, what made me to uninstall the worst battlefield crap I have ever played.
And considered BF Hardline as better than 2042 is truly an insult!

1. No classes, but operators.
This one? Star Wars Clone Wars have more sense than 2042. 90% of games I played, 4 people squad consist 2x Falck, 2x Rosier. 90% of kills I got by infantry - were either Falc or Rosier.
This simply kills any feeling of battlefield with 2 major sides of war. It makes me feeling like part of bloody clone wars, without any sense or reason behind ☹️

2. Cringe at end of round.
Really? Am I a dumb teenager at highschool to enjoy those cringe messages? Is EA expecting people playing their games are around 55IQ? Who else could enjoy this crap?
Even if I enjoyed the single game, the feeling was instantly killed by those dull mesages, with stupid gestures following. No more!

3. Almost no progress at all.
Rush mode - my favourite - would be great.
Thing is, amount of xp you gain from single rush game is insignificant. I would be forced to play a half year at minimum to make all unlocks. Thanks, but no.
Instead, I had to play All war out Breakthrough, which is clusterfuck, but gives much more xp to make progess so I could unlock next weapons in the game.
Not to mention, rush is part of portal, so additional restrictions could be apllied - and there is no easy way to filter our unofficial, not ranking servers out :/

4. Map design.
Since DLCs for BF4, I was observing how Dice deteriorated their skills in creating good, entertaining maps, especially targetting rush/breakthrough modes.
After seeing 2042, I miss all those BF4 maps I considered unplayable in rush.
2042 maps are either flat, with very limited cover, or are giving most of advantage to attackers by giving them all high ground over flags.
Anyone understanding modern battlefield conditions, will also understand the advantage of high ground.

5. Other stupid crap.
Shield bearers, invulnerable to rocket launchers and tanks. Really?
M5C Bolte - really? light vehicle which needs to get 3 rockets to be killed? Heavy tank requires 4 rockets! I know there are other weapons to kill this * - unfortunately, I can't access them while having low xp progress, and out of 63 other players, I could celebrate if there are 1-2 other people having and using these weaposn to stop this ridicoulus vehicle. Not to mention that time necessary for me to switch to rocket launcher, allows this vehicle circle me around at least 3 times. And kill me 3 times too.....

6. Graphics.
Battlefield 4 has better graphics, than 2042. 8 years old game is nicer to look than 2021 game? WTF? Can't believe to say so.... but that's the fact ☹️

@LlordusI played the beta (which felt way more balanced than the final release) andhave been playing since early release. I can consent to all of your points.

My main problem with the game is in CQ PTFO. It's just not rewarding. Either you arrive at a flag and get wrecked by some opponents vehicle. Getiting your own vehicle is nearly impossible because 63 other people click on the same vehicle...

Then you spawn at another point without a vehicle and it means walking simulator 2.0 (know what I'm talking about, I played Death Stranding, which had better graphics btw). Half your way to your destination you get killed by some sniper not PTFO, just camping out in the bigger nowhere of 128 player maps. Was a big issue in early BF V too. Playing the ops just feels not rewarding to me.

Gun behaviour is so strange. I'm getting killed over miles away in shot by a DMR and on the other hand i can't headshot kill a guy in 50 meters distance, blood splatters but no kill?!

Having to use 4 RPG on a tank is cruel to the fact you only can carry 3, get an ammo crate people say, but yeah... there are usually none around. Play Angel people say, but I can't stand the talking nor the look of this specalist.

There are so many issues on this game, that I really lose lust for playing it. And I had high hopes, since BF V was really patched well (except for anticheat) in the end. Still makes more fun hunting down cheaters, than playing the walking simulator 2.0 aka BF 2042.

I've been playing the franchise since BF 1942, except for hardline which I only played for a few hours like you did...

Believe me, 128 Breakthrough game has exactly similar player experience, and I understand and share your pain out of it.
Sad, that such great serie ends in such pitful state ☹️

Thanks for going public with your rant @Llordus,
Can see that we share near the same history with Battlefield, though I did have some previous versions of it also, did not buy HL but clocked around 7,500h in total.
I echo all your good points that you mention. Exactly the essentials we now miss for this to be a proper Battlefield game.
It would take a deep serious and honest looking in the mirror for EA to turn this one around.
But it is required if they want the Battlefield label to survive.
Already the last versions of BF1 and BFV saw for good reasons the franchise getting into shaky ground, and not solidifying/adding players to the franchise fan base.
Shocking that EA did not get that message straight and deliver this 3rd time now...

@Llorduswell i've been playing since BF1942, i think BF2 to this day is the best BF. and BF2142, loved the hover carriers, we all have seen the videos and articles, EA wanted a battle royale with clown masks, not battlefields, lets not forget BF cops and robbers, compleat trash it was DLC not a full game. EA only sees numbers, remember BF4 was so bad the investors had to bring a class actions lawsuit just to get EA to start fixing the game, they aren't going to learn, remember what they did to us with MOH, it was so broke, they just abounded it, didn't care about the season passes or any thing just we done and checked out, in fact this game feels like MOHWF, and wouldn't be surprised if it isn't and just re skinned, look at all the new DEVs all Battle royal people. i think its time to move on, at least for us PC players we have options, i'm getting reedy to buy a new Shooter, its want we want BF to be,

I'm already playing Arma III good ground shooter but Aircraft need work, ive been playing that or a few years

Squad is the new one i'm looking at looks really good, and was watching Video on World War III also looks really good

B1g_Ron_ ARMA 3 and Squad are more realistic mil sims and not an Action shooter like BF2042 the BF Series not really was a sim shooter in any of their releases.

Also, Squad is more like the follow up from Project reality mod from BF2

To WW3 I have nothing to say.

So you can’t compare Arma 3 and Squad to BF1942 and BF2 this two are declared as Action Shooter (look at EA web page 😉 )

Also, I don’t understand why are you’re here then? only for complaining? It, seems to me that nearly every game after BF1942 and BF2 (2142) have not fulfilled your expectation

Do you know why they have brought up the class action lawsuit? because the investor thought what EA has done was a fraud to them. Bud the judge had another view of the thing and was on the side of EA, If i remember that right one point was that every company is confident of the success of their games and thy speaks on positive of it (so no fraud here), the second point was that they worked close together with Sony and Microsoft to make the game better and point three was that the investor joined way before this game was released. So, this was more that the investor was afraid of their money than that BF had a rough start. Also, do you think that this lawsuit was in the interest of the players? NO not really…

And now? many here are claiming the BF4 was the best in the series…

So, it is always that expectation and preferences are not fulfilled that players are complaining.

Yes, BF2042 is different but is this bad? No, not for me I like the new Game.

And yes, it has bugs, performance issues and missing QoL but DICE is already on the way to fixing it.

Most BF games have had rough launches it seems. I have over 5k hours in the series starting with BFBC. I skipped Hardline and BF5.....and at the moment I am not buying 2042, although I may in the future.
Game companies long ago used to let reviewers get the game early and inform the public of their opinion. This is no longer done industry wide. It is sad to say that the customers are now kept from the merits and quality of a game and that the fans become the true Bera testers after paying full price for games rushed out way to early and unfinished. This method of sales and testing will continue as long as the customers let it happen. If you played the 2042 Beta you should have known that the game was nowhere near ready for release.
So many game companies now lie and make broken promises that I now consider it industry wide.
Battlefield is getting closer and closer to COD. You can see this over time and the releases that they have made. While the new game has many great ideas, it has dismayed older veteran players who see the change and do not like it. But money talks and the bulk of players are younger and not yet learned enough to see the changes that vets have. If your first game was BF1 or BF5, your view of the franchise is different than mine.
I do not want "Battlefield for everyone". I want a solid well thought out shooter without alot of arcade gimmickry and bling that is now so prevalent in the new 2042. And I do not want bots, They add nothing to the game other than fill up the empty servers.

Yes and no.
Since BF3, I was always having either deluxe version, or just purchased every single DLC they made for the game. This will not gonna happen in my case with 2042.
So yeah. They earned some money due to my standard edition. But they won't have anymore of them - yet somehow I am sure, they were accounting me in a more fruitful way for themseves 🙂

I do not want "Battlefield for everyone". I want a solid well thought out shooter without alot of arcade gimmickry and bling that is now so prevalent in the new 2042.

Thing is, I did not reflect at all towards technical quality. I expected there will be bugs, and issues - like almost every case in the history of franchise. I am highlighting the points, which in the merits battlefield game should have in my opinion, but 2042 has none of it ☹️

I also don't want "battlefield for everyone". This does not mean however I would like to have exact copy of BF4. It is good to have some additional improvements and changes. These however needs to be added to increase merits of battlefield franchise, not to make it a clone of CoD, Apex or other dumb thing.

BF Vet here too, I've not played 2042 for 9 days in a row now which is probably the longest I've not played a BF game in many years (other than when abroad). Not only have I not played 2042 but for some reason 2042 has also put me off of playing any other BF titles too. I guess 2042 has ruined the whole BF vibe for me and I don't see the point in playing older titles because I know the franchise had been ruined so I have no new good BF game to look forward to.
Real shame it's gone this way but unless they change a great number of things in 2042, add a load of crucial legacy features and publicly apologize while at the same time promising a proper BF game for the next title in the franchise then sadly I think I'm done with it.
I guess I'll have to hop on once a month or something to see if they've fixed everything and made decent changes but I'm not holding out much hope tbh.
