I just checked the May developmpent update video again. Freeman starts that section of the video by saying, "But there's some longer-term plans, too. Lars, do you wanna talk us through them?" Lars goes on to say "We've also started an initiative where we are cherry-picking a number of classic weapons from Portal."
This wasn't covered under the Season 1 portion of the video. It's longer term.

This will happen in season 2 and later seasons. It's easier/cheaper to pull existing weapons from Portal vs. developing new ones. Portal weapons have already been re-worked for 2042 and this version of Frostbite.
They want to do a little development as possible. But, they still have to deliver content for Season 2-4 in order to meet obligations for Gold/Ultimate edition customers.These portal weapons will be considered "content" for future season battlepass.
