Hi @PolluxAU,

No, there is no need to keep creating threads about this topic as there are already multiple threads discussing it, which have now been merged into one big thread, so everything about this same topic is in one place.

As we've mentioned a few times in this (long) thread, Linux & Steam Deck (which runs on Linux) are currently not one of the supported platforms for the game. If that changes, you can bet we'll let you know through the Battlefield social channels.

Continuing to create more posts on the same topic may be considered spam and could have consequences for your AHQ and/or EA account, as per https://answers.ea.com/t5/help/faqpage.

    @EA_Leeuw i think one of the misconceptions is that dice has to "support" linux, thats not what we are asking for.

    valve is the one that is supporting linux with the use of proton, every game that runs under proton is handled by valves engineers.

    apex for example got proton enabled for the eac anticheat, apex devs have done nothing to improve proton, the proton devs who are hired by valve work on it everyday and you can literally see the commits they do to improve the games which is what happend with bf2042, one day it didn't work then one of the valve devs fixed the issue that was causing it to get a bunch of errors when launching. now the game runs perfectly fine.

    i just cant enter a match because eac kicks me because dice hasn't enabled it.

    i dont understand how apex can enable proton support for battlefield cant, it shouldnt be this hard to do

    This topic very hot ^^ i play this game on Steamdeck Win11 it run not good but can play over 30fps

    i try run BF1 low setting on SD W11 and it run with 4x- 5xfps , but on Steamos  with medium setting have 60FPS , power of steamos

    The problem is that you thought that the statement that Dice will 'not support' running BF2042 on Linux based devices would be an passive statement. That they would not do anything to make it run there when in reality that might have been an active one, meaning that they will do things to actively NOT SUPPORT those devices.

    I agree that this should have been communicated directly and not left up to you to disentangle from the official statement. But when considering how little effort it would take to make it possible to run BF on those devices its hard to read this the passive way only.

    @ForumUser are you saying that one of the devs could have been working on bringing support to linux under proton? thats pretty wild if true

    I guess you misunderstood my statement.

    What I meant was that given the small amount for work needed to make BF2042 work on Linux (even without providing support if problems arise) the fact that this has not been done yet means that they took the ACTIVE decision to not invest the work. Otherwise they would just have done this on the side.

    Maybe the wording active/passive was misleading. I did not want to say they have someone working actively to prevent BF2042 to run on Linux.

    @ForumUser Oh yes I think that's weird if they know about it and aren't doing anything about it. The steamdeck and Linux desktop users combined could gain them a decent amount more users = more money. Imagine being able to play the latest bf2042 on your couch or in your bed, that would be sick af, and you can do that on windows so why not bring support to Linux and so the steamdeck won't suffer when trying to run something it wasn't designed to run.
    People can already play all of the other battlefields on Linux through proton, I play Bf1 everyday on Linux and I don't encounter cheaters unless it's bfv but that's not because of Linux.

    I think you overestimate the user base that would play it on Linux but don't also have Windows as a platform to play the game on.

    If they would officially support this, then they would of course also have to support this platform if problems arise and this would indeed cost them money. Not sure if the additional copies sold would compensate for that (my gut feeling is: 'No', but I have no data to back this up).

    In the end, they made the statement that Linux is 'not supported' and I guess it is pretty safe to say that IF this will work some day, then it is because they changed 'something' (read: remove EAC later down the line if this costs them money for some reason to still have this active in the futurfe) that -- by luck -- also makes it possible to run this game on the Steamdeck.

    I am personally running Windows on one desktop and Linux on my workstation but I would never consider playing any game on the latter as for gaming I do have the desktop and there, most things 'just work' (except BF2042, which requires up to seven attempts to just start the game, but that is another story 😉 ).

    You seem to have an aggressive response to fans loving your game and asking for it to support the steam deck. 

    Why not take it for what it is. You made a great game ! And we are telling you what we like and want, aka how to stay in our wallets.. why not listen and work on allowing it to be played on the stream deck instead of fussing about the overwhelming request.  Just an idea to help you make money like you used to when you made games for the players instead of the accountants. Making games for the players insures money for you long term not just a quick cash grab. I promise you its better for us both. Good luck abd hope 6 is what we are promised im looking forward to it !
