@ragnarok013 You are right and wrong. This games went f2p after years and not after a few months. To sell a game full price and go free after a few months is close to be criminal.
@Texatorr the time period of the transition to F2P for any game is immaterial as is the perception of that action to players like you and I - I doubt any of us would like the game going F2P. People made a purchase under a certain set of expectations, in this case either via a full price pre-order or full price purchase at launch for access to play the game. The players got exactly what they expected, a full priced game at launch. This is really no different than buying an item at full price and the next day it goes on sale for a reduced price or even put out on clearance at a drastically reduced price. You are not legally entitled to get a refund for the difference between the full price paid the previous day and the new sale price despite the fact that some retailers will occasionally give you a small rebate under this type of circumstance in order to create goodwill with customers.
If 2042 or any part of 2042 does go F2P (and we have no indication of the veracity of this claim from any official source as of January 2022) you can rest assured that EA did their legal due diligence to ensure they won't have to part with any money already taken in for the sale of 2042. As players we may not like what companies like EA do with the sales or monetization of the games we play, but as a company they do a very good job consulting their legal department to head off any potential legal exposure.
