Re: Console only crossplay for PS5/Series S/X with PC opt in like Apex

@1Hairy-Gorilla Just for clarity, if you opt out of crossplay on Xbox Series S/X or PS5 then you do so entirely and will only play with others on your platform. It's all or nothing.

    Yeah @ElliotLH,

And that is a little itchy thing for us on console here now.  Why would EA actually now again put into place a limitation that is unnecessary and at odds with the success of their game and all the impacted players' experience?  As the full xplay function is clearly there.  So why not allow the players now the option to decide.  It is mindboggling why EA are not more considered in their architectural design and related decisions.  Both the Xbox and the Playstation world would benefit across so many parameters if console xplay was enabled while having opted out from having PC gamers in the mix. And so would EA actually also themselves!

@CyberDyme Your guess is as good as mine man. It is odd, especially since Apex does already allow crossplay between consoles only.

While I'm going to give crossplay as it stands a go, it would be great if the way it works could be changed. I think a lot of people would prefer it that way.

Yeah which only a few will know you can turn it off which means playing bots, so why would anyone pay full price to play either with (aim)bots or just bots? Apex is the best solution, the PC has to many advantages not even including real cheats. This if it stands after the test will be ruined by cheaters just like BF 3/4/1/5 are on PC... BF3 and 4 had anti-cheats 4 having two! and it didn't stop them, having zero anti-cheat and forcing this again on console players isn't fair, I left PC gaming due to the hacker fest games turn into only to be put back in there with no real choice. Does EA not pay attention to what is going on in the other big full crossplay game every video atm lol?

Still holding hope that during/after the test they just go console only crossplay like the PS4/Xbox one version.

@carsono311 Sorry But a Dice Dev on twitter said its Xbox/ps5/PC or OFF there is no crossplay with console only option. The worst kind of crossplay imo.

As is evident, DICE are slowly introducing crossplay starting with 'all or nothing'. It is not unreasonable to assume, depending on how technical tests go, that functionality will expand leading to console crossplay only as an option.

    One can hope anyway.

hope there will be the console cross play only opt one day, you won't know that Warzone has been ruined by Hackers, and Dice is so dumb that still wants to make it ALL cross play, unfair and unreasonable at ALL !

I would more characterize it as if DICE introduces crossplay starting with a BIG BANG - 'all in' by default and its all or nothing at all!

What we can hope for is that DICE will learn from this and grow up fast, so we sooner and not later get's the option to opt-in on what other platforms we agree to include into our inner circle of trust.  Maybe I should not have used the term 'SOONer' here, as EA already diluted that term...  But here I mean like in 1st released code update after launch.  As I am afraid some of the coder nerds needs to see the havoc first of the monster they have created before somebody else more mature will pull the plug on it and save what can still be saved, by making the players (not the coders) decide what is best for themselves.

@callmeliberator the hacking concern is a very valid concern however DICE is working on AC and until they discuss that topic before launch we have no idea how draconian they will be with cheaters. The best thing we as a community can do is both give feedback so DICE is fully aware of player concerns on all platforms and also have some patience to see what new systems (both crossplay and AC) DICE may be working on.  It's wise to voice concerns but not wise to act like the sky is falling on crossplay just yet.

@1Hairy-GorillaOkay, that really just reads that there have to be two options for cross-play (full on or full off) and that EA DICE are investigating a third option...

Which makes sense, when you consider the ongoing technical testing related to cross-play that they are doing. I would bet that console-only cross-play is exactly what EA DICE are working towards, if they don't already have it down...

Not sure where you getting that, the dev poster on resetera said making 3 options wouldn't make sense or words to that effect.

@ragnarok013  Like their Anti-cheat in BFV? No anti-cheat is a silver bullet ppl wont get caught ect why put that onto console users? If you get caught cheating on console you got a brick on PC cheat makers give codes if caught that's how confident they are, and back up and running in hours. There will never be level playing field vs PC and consoles, Walled garden vs open source. Out cry when UWP was the answer to alot of cheating, the kernel level anti-cheat got backlash ect.

You can't run 3rd party aps on console, you can on PC with little comeback if caught. All it is about is making 2 platforms suffer to get more ££. I don't see any other reason to force PC onto consoles when PC games die out faster due to cheating. I'm sure this hasn't improved in 10 years or so I stopped.

@1Hairy-Gorilla Microsoft is adding their Pluton security chip inside future Intel and AMD CPUs. Once that happens PC processors will be a lot more like console CPUs and only run signed software code with proper encryption keys.

    https://www.theverge.com/2020/11/17/21571069/microsoft-pluton-processor-security-windows-pc

Intel is also working on encrypting everything stored in RAM, so that will block further cheating.

    https://threatpost.com/intel-encryption-security-ice-lake-chips/160083/

Once those two things are added, maybe no more cheating on PC, but I remain sceptical given PC's large hardware selection and build configurations. Someone will probably find a bug on PC and still figure out how to cheat.

There will be ways around it and more than likely can be disabled by the end user if wanted

@OskooI_007  Only a few issues I can see... Anytime MS tries something they're hit with backlash and step back UWP, only windows 11 features now windows 10 ect. That tech still not in chips for the foreseeable future, and even if they had them now, no game maker is going to release a game that only runs on them CPU's so its useless.

@1Hairy-Gorilla I agree, encrypted CPUs for PCs are still years away from competition. Which is why I'm buying BF2042 on PlayStation 5. It already had an encrypted CPU that stops cheating. 🙂

@OskooI_007  Issue there is I'm Xbox and we get forced into crossplay without being able to disable it. Apex/Warzone can't be turned off but on PS you can.

Still hoping they see sense and allow PS5/Xbox S/X only.

@1Hairy-Gorilla Console vs console crossplay sounds like the best option for sure. DICE did say Xbox players will have the option to disable crossplay. Hopefully there's a menu option for it in the game's menu, because I heard disabling crossplay in Xbox system settings doesn't work.

@OskooI_007  Well they said that about Apex and you can technically turn if off for warzone aswell (can't get past the menu) lol.

Yeah you can brute force no crossplay in your account, issue there is few know you can turn off crossplay and fewer than that know you can do it at account level.
