I would normally tend to agree with you that games should not have core gameplay features decided to combat cheating, bad community, etc. But we're not going to get community servers because it give to much control to the community and takes away control from DICE, which leads to issues as were brought up.
- PaperAssassin-PC5 years agoNew Hotshot@Noodlesocks When around 5+ servers with good latency in your area is run by the same clan and when they ban you, you get banned from all their servers.
- @PaperAssassin-PC Without that clan you wouldn't have had those servers to begin with, so they took nothing away from you that EA provided to you by not allowing you to play on their servers.
I'm not commenting on the banning and if it was righteous - just stating the fact. - PaperAssassin-PC5 years agoNew Hotshot@UP_SunnyTheWolf Which is why I'd rather prefer having official servers to play on. Having a game and not being able to play it because of bad communities is not what I want. Sorry.

I didn't realise that it was compulsory to play on community servers......

No official servers on BF4. they are rare or the server would just be empty.
- Trokey665 years agoSeasoned Ace@PaperAssassin-PC So you are comparing an unsupported, 8 year old game to a game that hasn't even been released yet?
Seems legit...... - PaperAssassin-PC5 years agoNew Hotshot@Trokey66 if you logged in 8 years back, this is the same thing you'd see. Bringing back custom servers unless it's run by DICE or respected people of the EA/ Battlefield community, I don't like the idea one bit.
- Trokey665 years agoSeasoned Ace@PaperAssassin-PC No it wasn't.
Badmins were/are an issue but there was always plenty of official servers to go to if required. - @PaperAssassin-PC The issue is that you are against community ran servers, and don't want them to exist - even though you are not forced to play on them and others enjoy playing on them.
That seems very self-centered of you. - HappyHourSumwur5 years agoSeasoned Ace
@PaperAssassin-PCAt this point looking at BF4 isn't a valid comparison. That game hasn't been supported by EA or DICE in years.
Official servers AND custom servers is the way to go, but eventually all games die out.
- @Trokey66 The servers with badmins usually end up empty and bleeding out because they get too draconian with their "rules". I see stuff like "no lock on weapons, clan members get vehicles, no C4, etc." You already know it's a garbage server.
- @PaperAssassin-PC So what's your point?

When you get banned from most servers in your region for playing well, being called a cheater and getting banned unfairly, yes. I hope community servers never return unless DICE only made them available for reputed battlefield community people to make. - @PaperAssassin-PC agree community ban list is not good for the community. The idea an Admin can perm ban for good play is rubbish. The only punishment such admin receive for false ban is what, reputation drop in the community which never happens.
BF4 had no way to question admin. - D3AD_M3AT_au5 years agoNew Adventurer
@PaperAssassin-PCSee I don't understand this BF4 is currently alive in my country purely due to rental servers ones that are admin controlled and keep out toxic players, hackers and DoS attacks
BF5 is utterly dead in my country because there are no rental servers and the official servers are full of hackers.
I've only ever come across one bad admin and that was in CS:CZ days maybe I've been lucky a lot of the servers here where run by clans and online gaming community's.
But the current level and availability for hacks in modern FPS is driving the masses away we need some way to protect the servers and EA has shown not to care about that we need gamers to protect the servers with admin tools.P.S
Silk's video where he's talking about community run servers that's what used to happen in Australia with BF2 (and other games) we had gamearena servers which was a community ran gaming site hosted by the national phone carrier.
They had pub admin ran servers and clan comp servers it was awesome and some of the best gaming I've ever experienced.
BF3 and BF4 had clan ran servers here they where and are pretty good but are no where as good as the gamearena era this is what silk is talking about he never experienced it because as he stated he started playing in BF4 and GA got shut down by telstra in 2014.
Here is the farewell by one of the editors gives you an idea of what we had.
Its is a bad idea to have not enought OFFICIAL Servers like we have now in BF4!!
Again EA/DICE is saving money and dont provide enought servers - players are forced to use community servers! Or community servers are the only reason you can still play battlefield 4? Maybe you guys start thinking this way.
Community server are extrem important in Battlefield in my opinion, you should not fight against community server you should point out that there are NOT ENOUGHT Official Servers!
God damn, why is community always fight against itselt and do not take the developers into account!?
This whole badadmin blabla (which I expierienced maybe 3-4 times in my entire Battlefield 4 playtime) could be no problem if there would be enought official servers.

Great points @c4m3l ,
Think we all should embrace to having more servers available to choose between!
Though with the official [DICE] servers, there I would enjoy a reasonable presence of official DICE admins, to make them enjoyable to all and not just the cheats. Just letting the servers run on auto-pilot is not good enough...
- @c4m3l BF4 had no official servers on PC we had only community servers.
The first Offical PC server was in BF1.
The world is not just Europe or North America there are small regions too, which many seem to forget. Which makes trolls and cheaters more obvious.
So in small regions when the vast majority of servers ban weapons, had no DLC or other special rules, Badmin too become more common when there not much choice. - @PaperAssassin-PC I call BS... On PS the official servers were thriving from around 2013 until 2016 at least... Once BF1 came out the official servers had a natural dip in playercounts and official servers were sparse.
I get it ppl tend to avoid badmins and therefore I am looking forward to the
2+ gazillion posts here on bad servermanagement once Portal comes out... OP is acting like the choice between them doesn't exist.
- Both rented and officially hosted servers can be running next to each other
- In fact, that has been the case for years - unfortunately OP started playing BF when it already started going downhill. He simply never had the experience others had, like in 1942, Vietnam... and so forth
- Most official servers got completely dropped at some point by EA and had several issues like base rapes etc. Most clans manage this better.
- From my experience, most admins are quite fair and sure... when there are 5 servers left to play on, a ban could mean you are left with nothing to play.
But, in that case:
- The game is already pretty much dead and it's mostly the fault of EA to not host a few more servers, NEXT to rented servers from clans and enthousiasts
- Developers just drop server support after years, this happens in virtually any online game. Without the clans still hosting a few fan servers, nobody would be able to play
- Lastly you can always host your own server if you get banned from 5 other servers which makes me really wonder if that isn't your own fault
Anyways, I get the frustration but I don't agree with the way you provide a solution. In fact, officially servers are mostly horrible with very little to no admin support.
This is just my opinion based on hosting servers myself and playing Battlefield since the '42 demo and having 200+ minimum hours experience in almost every BF game.

2+ gazillion posts here on bad servermanagement once Portal comes out...@DeeCay_DK_81 back when RSP came out in BF3 we actually had a listing of "Community approved" rented servers that offered a solid play experience without and Badmin behavior. It was a good addition to the forums since the servers were permanent.
- @ragnarok013 Not to mention they were usually a *lot* more effective at moderation as large clans usually ran them and the rules were clearly posted, and there was one or more people with admin rights on 24/7.
Yea, the badmin meme had it's place sometimes, but it's a shame BF friends never did a "why always me" (at least i can't remember one) episode to balance it out, first thing to mind when someone does a private servers were bad blanket statement is "maybe the only constant factor was you?" because I've genuinely missed rented servers.
Not to mention once you'd found a few solid servers you liked to come back to a lot, you usually had some opposition that made the game fun.
Well, unless you showed up with a guild group and kinda trounced the home team, then you decided to show up later solo or duo maybe and you'd have 2+ squads hunting just you, never mind the objectives.
I actually though that was fair mind you!
Some of those "rivalries" (we'd usually laugh/banter about it in chat after the round was over) was one of the best parts about those private servers. - Jesse1654 years agoSeasoned Ace
As long as me and my friends can still create our own Portal Server for FREE and play with the AI Soldiers
I don't really care about whether or not they do add paid servers that stay up longer at that point.
But if it took away the ability for us to create FREE Portal Servers... It is NEVER worth that risk!
Me and my friends would probably demand refunds for the whole game at that point.
If you don't like the servers available to you, create your own and recruit players to join. Of course you have to put in the work finding and keeping players, should you be short of friends...but that's part of the process and one which could be rewarding to anyone passionate about the game.
