Re: EA is more focused on "Report Other Players" than the game.

@ragnarok013Totally agree with you first paragraph. I really wonder if some people realise how difficult it can be to reliably recreate issues and identify the cause never mind fix it!

You second though, whilst I share some concerns and disagree with others this is still a BF game to me. I just think that the 'community' holds some responsibility for a good few of the elements you brought up.

You have been around here long enough to know that the 'community' wanted rid of Premium/paid DLC for example and even if only indirectly, supported DICE/EA's move away from that model.

@VBALL_MVP beat me to it!

@Trokey66 I remember well both the history and where you and I have commonality and disagreements but the good thing is we're always civil and open minded whilst discussing those issues.  I'm torn about "this is a Battlefield game". In some respects I have fun like I do in BF4 and in others I want to chuck my mouse out the window and boot up ESO again.  Things like the flying squirrel and McKay completely destroy the flow of battle in 2042. This is readily apparent whenever I boot up my Portal server with BF3 classes and 2042 maps. Then there is the horrible ping system but then we have so many Specialists that do some form of 3D spotting not to mention the pokeball to spot as well - there's a cognitive dissonance about spotting in this game that can be frustrating not to mention the whole clone wars aspect that really torques me off. I saw two Boris' on different teams standing next to one another on top of a building on Kaleidoscope completely unaware that they were not on the same side 2 nights ago shooting at people.

Regarding Premium, those opposed were IMO a loud minority and EA only "listened to them" when they saw Live Service kicking off in other games like Overwatch. When they announced a live service for BF5 both I and DannyOnPC responded to Dan Mitre that this is not a good thing for Battlefield or the players because we'll get less content, gimped progression and rewards systems, more MTX grifting, and they can cancel a game at any time...and we saw all of that happen in BF5. I'm more opposed to Live Services than "Surprise Mechanics" and that's saying something because I loathe those.

Personally, if I see someone and I'm not sure if they're friend or foe, I shoot them. That tends to separate them pretty quickly. I'd also look at the colourblind options for the game - the tritanopia setting makes it much easier for me to identify friend/foe quickly, and I'm not even colourblind. Universal design is good design.

@ragnarok013  - With regard to nightclub grandad on the roof, that's much more likely a failure of the players to look  at the minimap - they would be appearing as red on the map as long as they didn't have the chunky suppressors attached.

If you think the prox sensor is bad, you should try equpping the SOFLAM - it 3D spots everything, and by that, I mean everything - all armour, air assets, materiel and infantry. It's ace. Blowing up and scaring off choppers and armour with even just one squadmate with the recoilless M5 makes me tingle down there.

@ragnarok013 the spotting situation is truly bizarre indeed!

We have so many ways to 3D spotting gadget wise but can't manually do as infantry!

As the above poster says, the SOFLAM shouldn't spot infantry for example.

@Trokey66 I recall being able to spot infantry with the soflam in BF3/4 via Q (but not automatically like with the MAV so it makes sense that we could unless the poster is speaking of locking onto infantry which would be a bizarre mechanic.

@filthy_vegans  to be honest I'm very pro prox sensor as I'm a big fan of the 3D spotting that we had from BF2142-BF1 since it made gameplay much better IMO.  I haven't unlocked the SOFLAM yet but I am eager to do so since I rarely see anyone designating targets.

@ragnarok013Trying to remember if BF4's MAV was automatic or manual as well.

Either way though, too many things do it automatically in BF2042 but let an infantry player R1 (PS5) spot is a step to far?

In light of that though my comment about the SOFLAM was BF2042 specific. It's just a shame that you don't get vehicle assists when using it.

It would be so awesome to be able to paint snipers with the SOFLAM. I'd never do anything else.

The SOFLAM auto-3D-spots everything. No Q required.

@Trokey66 assists in general are really lacking in 2042.  If they added these "legacy features" back in I believe it would really help the game play experience. You can only incentivize team play you cannot mandate it like we saw with attrition in BF5 and incentivizing via XP, ribbons, medals, dog tags, etc (all lacking in 2042) is the way to go.

@filthy_vegans that's exactly why I'm a fan of the mortar - it's a counterbalance to snipers and if it's the BF3 style mortar you can be counter mortared by the other team which prevents spamming.  We have a sniper infestation in 2042 due to the long map site lines, verticality, and no weapon restrictions.
