Re: EA/DICE respond to backlash

@Zoikon

Dou you think that this is the same Engine they used with BF V?

I would say they have done many changes and upgrades since then and changing all to DX12 was a huge step.

And if programming and changing where so easy as you say than more companies had done this 😉

@MurkaZzz

I don't say this game has no issues, there are many bugs, balance and performance problems that need to be fixed.

But for me another approach to the franchise with the specialist don't makes it unplayable or even broken for me. I don’t miss the classic score board because in my opinion that it was forcing the wrong kind of teamplay. Not a K/D or high points winning the round the team is winning a round.

Also, I’m happy that there is no all chat don’t miss the trash talk and toxicity.

I like BF2042 and let’s see where DICE is going with it.

Also, since the Beta I knew in which direction the game was going and the trailer for me don't shows things that are not in the game

But hey different perception, expectations and preference. Also, I’m always willing to try something new and it seems that I’m more flexible to the new approach DICE is going with BF2042

@0ld_yell0w maybe I’m more down to earth than you? I don’t wear the glory nostalgia glasses and praises good old times.

Yes I like some Battlefield more than other my all-time Favourite for Multiplayer is Battlefield Vietnam and Battlefield 2 and when it comes to Story I would say the Battlefield Bad Company and Bad Company 2 I liked the most.

I also I had a lot of fun with 1942, 1943, Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4 and Battlefield 1.

I didn’t bought Battlefield V it was gifted to me but due to less time and to the fact that the playstyle didn’t catch me, I didn’t play it much.

And that EA/DICE want monetized things is nothing new and I have no problem with it.

If I like the game and I think it is worth it, I put extra money in if I don’t like it I don’t put extra money in it, simple for me.

So again, then bring fact about the number which are not assumption or glorified content creator numbers which also only assumption.

That only a few people here not have the same opinion as you are not a fact that players who like the game in a minority.

Maybe players who like the game are playing it and don’t want arguing with “people” like you.

It is most of the time that people who like the game are silence than people who don’t like the game.

Also, In your line of work? Wow luckily that here in EU most country have laws related to work and holidays.

See you on the Battlefield

@CountSeroYou're kind of victim blaming here- DICE set this BF up to be "ahead of schedule" "128 players" "the test was an old beta, the game will work great on the day" etc. Even with the negative beta feedback they went ahead- most companies with such a negative beta feedback would have delayed to review the target market. As a result it came out broken, and they knew it.

It's not the BF fans fault they are complaining, it's DICE for knowingly selling us a broken game (again). If you want to cut them some slack, then great, enjoy the broken BF7 they will sell you next year, because they rely too much on customers 'cutting them some slack' every time now.

My personal gripe is not the broken game, it's the VERY poor communications to the fanbase about how it will be fixed- that doesn't take a Dev working over Christmas, it takes a PR guy doing basic 101 customer care steps to ensure that the message has been received and  will be acted upon.

The first message from DICE should have been "These are all the issues we have received, we will look at them and get back to you [insert date here] with answer as to what we can do for each issue". This sort of PR doesn't require a Xmas fix, it requires a committent to coming back with answers as to what is possible (not fixes).

No point trying to make the game better - shelve it and move on. The core gameplay mechanics and direction taken are not salvageable.

You can see by the dwindling player population the game will be dead as a dodo very soon

  • @CountSero  I also work and live in EU, that doesnt stop me from getting the job done when our paying customers wants something for the money.

Nostalgia ? no, expecting DICE to make a true Battlefield - yes.

"Also, since the Beta I knew in which direction the game was going and the trailer for me don't shows things that are not in the game" .. did we watch the same trailers ?

"So again, then bring fact about the number which are not assumption or glorified content creator numbers which also only assumption."

Basically youre saying STEAM stats is lying because those are the numbers most people here use.

Wow, talk about assuming, you just did.

I respect you like the game and play it, but you dont need to defend anything if you dont think its a problem, again, as you yourself stated people who likes the game is mostly silent and dont want to argue with "people" like me...... what ever that is ...

Based on some of the quotes that people have posted on Twitter, i'm suprised anyone involved with the game even bothers to reply or comment on anything.

  • I think the tweets were a bit tone-deaf and possibly trying to obfuscate the issues surrounding this game.  BF2042 has a TON of bugs in this game that, IMO, need immediate attention and communication.  Example - playing controller on PC is almost impossible due to bugs.  This needs to be fixed ASAP as it's an in-game feature.  This issue has one of the largest threads in the Bug Reports forum.  I don't want to hear "git gud and play with mouse and keyboard" or "hey try this workaround".  We need to hear an official response and/or acknowledgement from EA that the bug is being worked on.  That's just one example of MANY bugs that need to be fixed (don't even get me started on hit reg or trying to find a cross platform friend or the poor PC performance issues).  We understand that introducing new features such as scoreboards take time.  But lumping ALL of the game's issues into one tweet is not a good look.

And I don't like this whole implication that we, the consumer, are the problem when we have been asking for more communication since the game was released back in November.  We bought a game that we expected to at least be playable for the majority of the paying customers.  There's now plenty of stats and evidence showing that my prior sentence is not the case.  And yet we get that tweet directed at us?  In the words of so many people on Twitter, "do better".

Well they have to spend that battlefield 2042 bonus cash sometime!

Meanwhile they left the player base with broken faulty product over Christmas…… am I supposed to be sympathetic?

The numbers are accurate; it's the assumptions people make about those numbers that are often flawed.

The trend absolutely does not look good. However, there's a thread on this very forum (it might even be on the front page) claiming that 90% of all players have stopped playing, based on (you guessed it!) Steam Charts. It's just not a justified interpretation. There's another post somewhere with the claim that less than 10,000 people now play Battlefield 2042, based on (you guessed it!) Steam Charts. Again, this is not justified.

The sample size is large enough to draw inferences from, and yes, the raw numbers do tell a story, although it's often not what people say it is. However there are important caveats because of the assumptions we have to make, such as the ratio of Steam sales vs. Origin sales (Steam doesn't track games not launched through its service) and Xbox and Playstation numbers (the platforms for which the game was primarily developed), which are again not publicly tracked. Moreover, there is also the question of whether console players play the game in the same way that PC players do, i.e. PC players tend not to sit on the sofa gaming. If concrete figures were available for all platforms, we could start doing some stats. There's plenty of qualitative evidence here and on Reddit, etc. to flesh out the numbers, although I'd also expect EA to at least collect focussed reports from some players.

I'd point out that the game runs like absolute crap on 4-core CPUs, and that there's probably not much that can be done about it; it's the cost of 128 players. A little over 50% of all CPUs on the steam hardware survey are 4-core or fewer parts. The question is, then, how many of those players bought 2042 and can't play because it's a stuttery mess?

Using Steam Charts is enough to give a general indication that something is amiss with the game population, but unless you have access to richer data, there's not much more that you or I could justifiably say apart from "the game's not very popular on Steam."
