Suppression as a mechanic should return although as an 'option' would be unlikely in my opinion.
It is a useful balancing tool and I would pitch it somewhere between BF4 and BF1 levels.
Oh, and INB4 "but suppression rewards bad aim.....!"
@Trokey66 I agree the whole point of something like suppression was that it was equally applied so an option setting would likely result in people turning it off for an advantage.

Yep. Unless it's a BF1 Afflictions style thing, I could only see a small number of people intentionally using it. Much fairer to apply it to everyone.

If it was voluntary suppression wouldn't that just work on you and not your enemy?
Wouldn't that hamstring you pretty bad?
Confused?

Voluntary suppression would mean that if I enable the setting then I will receive the suppression penalties and visuals from everyone as demonstrated in the Battlefield 3 videos. While this may increase the difficulty level in some cases this property correlates heavily to why I play video games. I want my entertainment to be challenging, immersive and atmospheric. I want to feel a sense of accomplishment and that my time was well spent. I do not want to play battle passes, trophies and assignments nor do I want an experience that makes me feel like I am playing a Call of Duty game.
Being suppressed does not mean the battle is lost and can provide a player with useful feedback of shots being fired at your soldier model while also providing a low computational complexity substitute for fine mist or dust based particle effects to simulate the idea of bullets striking nearby cover objects like brick work or concrete helping to give the impression that there is more destruction then there actually is.
Having voluntary suppression would be no different in principle to the choices that people make when they play Battlefield 2042 in that players will change the options to balance: graphical fidelity, comfort and computer performance as the configuration set may or may not be optimal for getting the best of your opponent. In other cases a player will choose to modify their gun, camouflage or equipment load out to represent personal tastes, interests and dexterity capacity over maximum attacking potential.
