Re: is it true bf2042 is a repurposed BR project?

@0_oRage"In other news, the theory that #Battlefield2042 started as a Battle Royale is true, although I'm not sure how far in development it was changed to a more "traditional" Battlefield.

The inspiration from CoD was there, but Apex was a BIG inspiration."

Quote was from my goldfish.

Many games change direction, I don't blame EA or DICE for the BR thing, Warzone tops out at 150 000 000 players, you'd be hounded by investors to chase those same numbers, it's insane.

They should pivot instead towards Tarkov-esque systems, it's a sleeper monster.

How does it feel to you? For me, it feels like it was designed to be a BR game first. We discussed this before this rumor surfaced. Many said it feels off. Portal is the mode that is to keep us happy supposedly, but what do we really know about it. Maybe some gameplay but first Hazard Zone today right? Priorities for EA

    Agreed @ghinavirus ,

I expect that we will see tomorrow in the reveal that Hazard Zone will be a squad based Battle Royal mode!

And I think that was one of the original key priorities for the BF2042 game plan, to excel in this area and promote it heavily.  Especially where the specialists will be of high importance and where the micro transactions will cater to the player base who is willing to keep spending money on cosmetics.  EA was left in the dust by their competitors, when that hype took off few years back.

I think where the EA marketing team made a huge miscalculation is that the core of the old Battlefield vets do care less about cosmetics and more about the teamplay, the community camaraderie and the classic Battlefield game mechanics and experience you get from that immersion!

So essentially they have dropped the vast majority of their old franchise fans behind, as its not COD and its not BattleRoyal that we care much about...

Its Battlefield we care about and the things that made Battlefield a special gaming experience, which none of the other game franchises out there could provide!

@ghinavirusI had great fun with the beta, and thoroughly enjoyed. Sure there were plenty of bugs and glitches, I reported and then disregarded those, and continued having fun without over-comparing, or trying to find clues to what it might have been (though could not help looking for hints of a phantom program followup, dinousaur tracks and megalodons).
If there was intention for BR - and I agree you could make a case for that, as you could many other theories - but I did not think of that at all while playing.
  • @CyberDyme Agreed as you wouldnt see clones of yourself often in a BR type of game which is why we have specialist aka skins to sell.

These maps are designed for BR not conquest. They want medium to long range gunfights. They do not want a Zavod311 or Op locker/metro.....thats where portal comes in. Like I said before, Portal is designed for us to figure out what we want since Dice have no clue what to do or never cared and wanted BR from the get go. This is also why many of us stated several times we feel we are being phased out. Slowly little details are trickling out of Dice studios and its becoming a sad reality.

Again use EA play and do the trial before a full purchase. I will keep saying this instead of EA getting its way. They want to sell us old BF guard Portal/conquest to fund their free 2 play game Hazard Zone for a safer bet if it flunks. Just my 2 cents and how I see things.

@ghinavirusThe 'community' don't want Zavod or Locker, just read through the forums, they want bigger maps like BF2 and BF2042 gives them that.

Whether you or I agree with it is almost irrelevant as feedback would disagree.

  • @Trokey66 I agree with you. A lot do like the big maps. I think a lot of gamers these days like to have these micro firefights then its over for a few minutes. Which is why it feels like a BR map to me. But hey people love it so not much we can really do if thats what is designed. We either accept it or move on.

Kind of hoping that Discarded and/or Manifest are CQC maps, or at least have sections heavily leaning that way. The descriptions kind of hint at that to me anyway.

    Love a meat-grinder map.

@ghinavirus Micro firefights as you call them were a 'thing' long before BR.

I just don't get the need to compare everything with BR when there are numerous other things they could be based off.
  • @Trokey66 I compare it to BR because all these games are following a trend which is BR. Our opinion may differ and thats ok. I do like your comparison with Hazard Zone to the dark zone.

@Trokey66 I guess it because that is what the market moneymaker is at now, and investors do not have the imagination to see that something different might be the next moneymaker...
  • Who doubts that question after todays trailer? The whole core design is basically built for Hazard Zone.

  • @ghinavirus Agreed, the layout / shape is very unusual and unfitting for a conquest game mode. There is a cluster of four flags in the north, and two flags on either extreme end, this makes no sense unless these areas were never meant to be flags. The whole shape is weird, something I've never seen in a game before and makes it hard to traverse from flag to flag. Tom Henderson's leak is most probably correct. I think they just tossed in tornados for marketing.
