Re: Mackay is breaking the game

@cso7777 I've noticed two types of Mackay players. One is a really good player who uses Mackay to get around the map quicker, but doesn't really need Mackay to get kills. The other is a not so good player who needs to get to height to shoot down on unsuspecting players to get kills.

In TDM, this becomes really obvious. For example, almost every game of TDM on Kaleidoscope has two buddies rocking Mackay on top of the main building as soon as the match begins, head glitching and shooting down on spawning players around the main building. These are the guys who have trouble killing without using Mackay as it is really, really unnatural in any game to have to constantly look up towards the sky to impossible to reach positions to see if a Mackay is camping in positions that are not possible in a real battlefield of any type...

So personally I don't mind the Mackay player who don't camp. It is the "Camping Mackay" that are making the game seem like a mutant Fortnite/Apex/TitanFall 2 Battle Royale game.

The irony is the Pathfinder in Apex is basically Mackay dressed in a Battlefield uniform. It would be more fair if Mackay lost the grapple hook and was given the Pathfinder ultimate ability "Zipline Gun". Or at the very least increase the grapple hook cooldown more to match the much higher Apex cooldown...

@DeepSixxxx The problem with abilities like the McKays is that good players use them for wrecking bad players and bad players use them in ways that are just annoying in general.

In the end we all loose because the game becomes less fun to play.

Also (as others have stated), they create "meta-play" and that becomes really annoying pretty fast.

So no different from the way that BF players were already using long range sniping, tanks and helicopters.  All of these.can be used by good players to get lots of kills in ways that are frustrating to others on the same server.

As annoying as these specialists can be to battle against at times.  I do not see either of them breaking the game in ways that the BF series hasn't suffered from already.

@Skill4Reel I agree with much of what you are saying.

But it is a fine balance, the game must not be too random/chaotic. Being put in too many situations where you cannot avoid getting killed (randomly bombed to pieces, stabbed in the back by a "silent wingsuit", shot from above by MacKay etc etc), quickly removes the fun of playing.

The specialists have put 'an extra layer' of randomness to the game, which was not really needed.
  • @cso7777 While I can agree that these two specialists add to the randomness. I still get randomly killed by camping land vehicles and helicopters more than either of them.

Also every player has the option to use these specialists to counter if they choose. Everyone does not have access to land vehicles and helicopters at once.

From my time playing BF2042 I do not see either of these specialists being used an exorbitantly. Also there are areas on the maps that don't give ether a height advantage.

I've talked about the benefits of having either in a squad when attacking earlier in the topic.

@Skill4ReelI think MacKay is one of the most used specialists and has been since launch.

The newer maps with CQC showcases his strength even more now.
