EA put the guy who made Candy Crush in charge of 2042. He started looking for a new job halfway though 2042's development cycle and accepted a new position at Ubisoft. He had something lined up and bailed ship before the game was even finished.
Now we have Vince Zampella and Ripple Effect studio leading the franchise. Hopefully things get better. The only way things can get any worse is if EA kills the franchise.

I would agree with the statement in general, but NOT because the NEXT game (if this ever comes out) is a hero shooter. If BF2042 would be a good or even an average BATTLEFIELD game, then I (and most likely 90% of the community) would not care if the next one is a hero shooter. It would be like Battlefield Hardline and mostly get ignored until the one after that.
As said: not a big problem and certainly not the dead of the franchise IFF the current one would be acceptable. It is not and THAT is what will most likely be the demise of the BF series as a whole.
