Re: Played Rao for the first time, why is he still in the game?

Rao is not a serious threat to air vehicules as he can't prevent the pilot to use its flairs and hide.

It could be a lot more interesting and challenging if the hack could slow down or neutralize vehicules.

If you're playing with a coordinated group Rao is a serious threat to all ground vehicles and aircraft. He literally stops them from shooting back at you.

  • @protoman23 How so?

Hack aircraft and one of two things happens -

    1. Aircraft blows flares before the hack is done, granting them protection while they can't shoot or use abilities. This gives them the time they need to fly off behind the extensive cover that's available on every single map, since all aircraft are damned fast.

    2. They don't blow flares, and you have to hope your stingers lock ASAP, fire ASAP, and that there's a very clear, short distance between rockets and the aircraft. If the aircraft is any distance away, it'll fly away and the hack will be over before the stingers land, allowing them to flare. If not, they may eat 1-2 rockets before they can get behind cover where they'll just hang out while the active/passive repair quickly brings them to full life. Again, because they're all quite fast and there's extensive cover.

Sure, I can spend a whole round as Rao harassing aircraft and locking their abilities/guns so they have to fly away for 5-8 seconds. But the level of coordination required to get an actual kill - 1-2 rao's on either side of the map for a hack, 5+ players with stingers positioned high up with very clear, long lines of sight, and the aircraft being nowhere near any cover at all (basically impossible on any map) is absurd compared to how easy it is for a single pilot, even with bad gunners, to stay alive and massacre ground forces with no meaningful coordination on their end.

Rao isn't the setup-wizard that DICE keeps talking about him as. He's the annoying fly buzzing around your ear you keep swatting at but never actually get rid of.

When playing as Rao air vehicles are usually the last thing on my mind.  I am too busy spotting enemies on foot and hacking as much of the equipment that they throw out as possible.

One of the worst things about playing this specialist is when I have hacked a ground vehicle, the driver stops and sits there, and no one on my team hits it with rockets.

We were defending in Rush and the attackers drove the MAV right next to the m-comm.  I hacked it three times to keep it from shooting my team but no one would destroy the darn thing.  It was infuriating.   However Rao is a very rewarding specialist when the team is on point.

I've ranked him up faster than any of the others so far.
