Re: Portal Mode

@Foofer37 it's been officially confirmed that you can also play Solo + AI Soldiers in your team against a whole team of AI Soldiers as well. (not offline, needs to be online tho)

That means, yes you can basically.

Even tho they didn't mention it'll be in Portal, as they just said in Battlefield 2042 in general.

But as we don't have RSP in BF2042 yet, but Portal will be some sort of a RSP where you can set up a server i guess if you can play against AI only, it'll be in Portal.

Greets,

Travis

@Its_Travis_199Aren't you going to request for singleplayer/splitscreen/LAN offline bot support?

@ChrisAWJBethel all the map environment, game mechanics, hit registration etc etc are all happening on the server side.  And EA have not off-line LAN party gaming high on their priority list of what should be implemented for this game next, so though it could be a lot of fun, honestly dont think we ever will see this happening as long as it stays in the hands of EA ownership.

@CyberDyme What a surprise! You're like twentieth person to tell me this! Can you provide me with the publication or statement from DICE confirming this?

I'm not sure exactly what kind of confirmation you're looking for.  There are no local play options available for Portal or any of the other modes in BF2042.  The only servers available are in fact hosted by EA / DICE. All Portal Experiences must be created through EA / DICE's Portal website.  ....again, you cannot do this locally on your own system.

@ChrisAWJBethel they can't even get their * together and include voip and a scoreboard in a reasonable amount of time (like before launch) and you want client side portal bots?

@Psubond Yes. They mave the money, manpower, and technology to do so. And I want offline bots in EVERY mode, not just Portal.

You don't get it.  There is no offline mode in BF2042 period.  You cannot play Portal offline.  EVERYTHING is played on EA hosted servers at this point.  There are no rental servers and there are no offline / local options either.

Any Portal Experience you create on the Portal website (which is the only way you can create them) is hosted on EA servers.

Now, if your issue is the fact that there are no offline options that's one thing, but understand that the option does not currently in exist in portal or otherwise.

  • From my experience, portal is a non-entity. Any time I've gone into it, the server browser shows half a dozen or less servers populated with one or two players. So essentially there's nothing there. This is my experience since release.

I can understand people's enthusiasm for it as a concept, that it could be something brilliant. But the current reality is anything but. And I can't see how it goes from nothing to a vibrant community from where it is now. It's in a chicken-egg, lack of critical mass kind of situation.

Maybe I've missed something and others have had different experiences but I'm scratching my head why people are talking about it as being the saving grace of bf2042.

That has been my experience too, I feel Portal is a bit of a ghost town.

A few hardcore servers and as you say a couple of servers with 1 or 2 players that never fill up.

Like many others I had great hopes for Portal and thought it had great potential, unfortunately in reality it is dead in the water.

It would take a lot to turn Portal into the go to place for the masses and sadly t will probably only serve a niche market looking for a custom experience.

My friends and I only bought BF2042 for Portal and planned on playing it only with our own group of friends.  .....mostly PvE but also PvP against each other with bots filling in sometimes.

To that extent, it's been great. It fills a niche for us and gives us one more game to play together.

I had zero interest in the other changes they made to BF2042 and would have made a hard pass on this game hadn't been for Portal.

I'm not making any claims about what it means to other people but for us, it been well worth it.  I had no illusions of what this game was going to offer and no real big disappointments either.  It is what I thought it would be for the most part. The parts of BF2042 that I knew would suck still suck and those I was interested in are still interesting.

Yeah, I realize it's a narrow criteria but it does just that for us.  We really have no interest in PvP in this current iteration / vision of BF.  Had it borrowed heavily from aspects of earlier BF titles we loved and could appreciate (including a hardcore mode), it would be a different story.

Since the reveal, I had no expectations of what BF2042 would deliver and everything we had learned up to this point only helped solidify this new path EA / DICE were going.  I had hopes Portal would possibly be much more popular than most anticipated but they killed that hope with their poor decision making after launch and lack of preparation prior.

Maybe they can still pull it off? ....I doubt it but who knows.  I obviously want it to be more popular if for anything that EA / DICE continue to see the value in it and keep a focus on improving and adding to it.  If not, it will still provide some entertainment for us until we move on to something different.

IW's MW2 will be out later this year and Activision is already seeing the sting with 2 iterations that didn't meet their expectations.  Maybe IW will expend on the gameplay changes that brought a lot of people back to the franchise with MW2.  It's still not BF but we had a few months of PvP fun with MW2019 while also playing other games.

If more in our group had PS5's, I'd likely be spending a heck of a lot more time in Hell Let Loose right now.
