Re: Servers - Will we get them?

I'm not sure I can handle another Battlefield without some sort of dedicated servers at launch. Until I have the answer to this questions, I am holding off on the preorder.

It's like Dice doesn't want us to play with friends or have any sense of community. Just login, join a server, and spend money on the store.

  • I'm happy to see the portal information release, but i am still a little concerned. Will we be able to pay for a server and have it be perpetually online (even if it is empty)? to build communities within the BF community? Spinning up servers that are only available for a limited time won't do this...Server longevity builds communities.

As a long time BF player, i usually gravitate to playing on a small number of 3rd party hosted servers with the same rule sets and the same type of players. This is what is important to me.

I don't want to just play on any random server that won't be there tomorrow.

  • I stated earlier that DICE would be daft not giving us/community the servers we wanted. Now they confirmed they wont give it to us..

Im not buying it before we got rentals.

Please stop asking for servers we have to pay for ???   We are being given portal which is a free server solution..    And if we don't prove to DICE that we can make it work we will never be given a server solution again.

The   procon servers of last gen titles is never coming back.   You have to get over that, never coming back.  I know it hurts because they were the good old days.

But the communities out there are going to have to work with portal and prove to the board at EA,  not DICE,  but the people that dish out the money.  That the community will grow if you give them the tools to shape the game and that's what portal is.

And if we fail it will be the end of an era,  simple as that it's in our hands.  And boycotting, and paying and playing in games that have never offered and never will offer us any level of control only proves there case.

    @ShevermiN I completely agree with you 110% 🙂

Servers you are forced to pay extra for would lead to a ton more people refusing to get the game at all than those who want to pay for private servers.

If they ever made it to where we had to pay extra each time to create our own Portal Server even with the AI Soldiers... I would refund my Ultimate Edition right then and there.

The servers will remain FREE and if anyone here doesn't like that than Too Bad! Feel free to choose to stay with your paid only servers in Battlefield 3 and 4 until they are shut down.

I however will be playing on the FREE Servers I can create in Battlefield 2042 🙂
  • @Jesse165You know, paying for servers has always been an OPTION. I don't think this will have any negative impact on the playerbase. Actually the opposite. People have always hosted servers and maybe relied on some donations.

If there just was an option to host them, how on earth would that be negative to the playerbase? Assuming you understand what option means.

Another argument I've not seen yet, is training and clanwars on private servers. This was always a nice addition to earlier BF games. I guess maybe with portal you can password protect your server, but I doubt it will be possible for the base game. Meaning clanwars will probably not be possible at all. Oh well, I guess eSports have been dead for years in the BF franchise anyways. 🙂

PS: unrelated, it's rather hilarious that you've paid the ultimate edition but don't want to pay for hosting a server. Talking about wasting money. 🙂
