Re: Terrible network behavior after S5 rollout

@sgtPoultonI’ve been watching this closely with network graphs on for about 7 months. Since the game started I have had a ping of 27 (sometimes 28). It’s been very consistent. What varies is the ALAT, my server side connection. On a good day, it’s 35, so I’m only a little bit behind. Bad days are 44, with inout lag as well. Since S5, it’s been over 50, and becomes totally unplayable. Bizarrely, on Friday night I had an ALAT of 19, which I’ve never seen and couldn’t figure out how to compensate for that. Luckily it was only once, but 19? (I’m on PC)

Im playing since day 1 and have almost 700h played and I can say that ON RELEASE game was MUCH more fun and entertaiment. Those "listen to community" things killed everything. Now its unplayable at all. 60-2 guys every round. latency like im playing from saturn. and it only degrading with every upgrade

Yesterday I was playing a round at around midnight CET time and my latency was okay. Is it possible that lower online count helps servers to deal with load? Who knows

    @ATFGunrI did measuerments today
Breakthrough 64 players gave me 83 ping along with 34-37 ALAT.
Its considered to be bad ping for me (after S5 update) Im usually having 74-75 ping.
I did some research on my side and even contacted ISP - we found to problems or changes in past months,
I also has 0 packet loss and my speed is fine, so the only issue here is ping, which is, actually fine for other games and applications. I will try to do measurements this evening/night to see if this matters.

@sgtPoulton I’ve never had issues with other games either, it’s clear to me it’s 2042 and you might be wasting your time trying to solve a server side issue.

@ATFGunr Also, I was right about time. By midnight CET and beyond ping goes down to reasonable 66-67 as it was before. Probably because less people is playing by that time. Can't confirm or deny that as EA/DICE never post or reply here. Sad because there's basically no other games I play much, got along with all technical problems and bugs but have nothing to do with this.

Im armed with PingPlotter and continue my investigation.

Today I got back to my PC and my ping seems fine, 66 average, ~3ms jitter.

I have foundd old Atic's post about bf2042 using AWS infrastructure to host servers, however I couldnt find correct IP to ping.

With some social engineering I found EU Frankfurt server address is https://dynamodb.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/

I did PingPlotter magic and it shows pretty good timings until I hit "mx01.Stockholm.gldn.net" which is obviosly a Sweden host. Right now when my ping is fine it shows 47 ping to that host and 0 packet loss. Once my ping goes high and I feel lags/rubberbanding I see pack loss grows up to 80% (while game debug shows theres no packet loss at all)

Right now my network is consistent, I don't know if my ISP changed something (we had long conversation about how BF2042 is important for me).

    Cheers~

This is where a Server Browser comes in. If you were able to pick the server you play on, you wouldn't be MM'd into instances with bad pings.

@Adamonic I gave up waiting for it. Its been 20 months since releaase and there's nothing about server heard around. I dont understand a single reason why would they remove server browser

@sgtPoulton The answer to why no server browser is money. If you have a dedicated server, you have to pay for it. From what I understand, is the servers only “exist” when there is demand for it, otherwise it’s not being rented. It’s far cheaper for EA to use that model of “on demand” servers. Too bad it’s contributing to the decline of the game.

@ATFGunr I wish someone with a brain would realize that Battlefield can't be treated like other games just because it is an online fps shooter. There are just too many variables due to game modes, number of players, different maps, ping/region, etc.

Yeah it isn't coming. It is what it is at this point. I just get happy when I get in a server that my ping is good

@GrizzGolf I have barely played since the AR changes and the latest change did nothing or even made them worse (which would've been hard to do).

It almost feels purposeful. The same week as another game gets launched, almost pushing players there for decent gunplay.
