That little icon indeed means that there's something going on with your connection.

It is the BF2042 variant of the Latency Variation on Client icon.

Have you tried to reboot your router already by any chance?

Latency variation means your ping isn't steady and is fluctuating up to say 50ms, then back down to 40ms, etc.
Battlefield's netcode is very sensitive to latency variation. It's the main factor behind bundled bullet damage, and the time to death being twice as fast as it should be.
