Since everyone either camps in the back with tanks or harrasses everyone with the helicopters and nobody works together to take em down I think 3 is plenty

Agreed.
The person you replied to is obviously talking about Breakthrough which by its very nature dictates tanks stay back and act as long range artillery.
The second they move too close to the enemy they are easily and quickly dealt with by a competent team.
