@CyberDyme The one in the picture is a PTR-F I've now modified quite a bit more, the biggest issue i had since the picture was taken was finding a way to get a "proper" free float while adding a modern handguard.
(not stiffening the frame more as i want to retain the use of the meat grinder stock)
And yes, it's got a heavy/bull match barrel, that's now 17.5" due to the cut and re-thread.
Once the wife stops glaring at me every time i mention getting some work done on it I'll probably flute the barrel to get some weight down, it's pretty nose-heavy with a can.
I managed to find someone in the US while i lived there that made the SG trigger set for the civilian models so it's got a 6lb pull on SA, and a notch you can engage between safe and SA that enables a button behind the trigger. (no FA as it's a civilian weapon with a welded FA block)
If you depress that, you can then click it down to SA and get a 2lb pull on the next shot which obviously helps quite a bit when going past 600. (i don't remember if the MSG had the same trigger group or not)
Also bought a Norwegian FA bolt carrier for the extra weight/bolt forward grooves and got a brass deflector welded on as the A4 AG3s use just for convenience, less walking when looking for brass later ๐
Top rails and front shroud (latter not in the picture) are the B&T adaptors rather than welded.
It's still languishing in import hell so once i get it back I'll send you a pic of the finished article.
That being said, I own one primarily because i just loved the rifle while active, still think the roller locked delayed blowback system should have had a much longer modern shelf life vs what it had (granted, HK hasn't been allowed to retire the MP5 so i guess it still lives on).
MOS-wise i graduated JFACTSU and i was Army, not AF which might give you specifically a clue, my origin profile pic is actually a picture i took during a deployment in '98 or '99.
Random side note, did you ever try using a MG3 with a box mag during contact/peel-off drill training?
It's hilarious. (and of course, utterly impractical. But sometimes you just don't want to count lot numbers at the end of a range day)
