I agree with the above comments. It should have been opt-in from the very beginning in my opinion.
When you first play the game the opening screen should be: crossplay console only yes or no.
Not difficult and 10 mins work at most whilst getting a coffee also.

This would NOT work because even if new players would choose 'console crossplay only' they would not find a game and after impatiently waiting for about 10 seconds they would immediately go back to settings and turn crossplay on to be able to play.

...which would then put them in a lobby with PC players who, according to the EA dev, have a distinct advantage over them.
Sounds like a no win situation for consolers looking for a fair and even gaming experience to me.

Now it would not work anymore indeed as the playerpool is too small. This should have been in game at launch.
ive had enough. I quit playing until an update with console crossplay only is available. This is no fun at all. How hard can it be to let us console players play together? I will check this forum 1 time every month and see what you all saying. Not starting that game ever again if they dont listen to us.
its not just PC advantage, the game is filled with cheaters atm
I can only recommend to install old gen version. Its much more fun on the controller.
next gen versions of BF2042 (PS5 and Xbox Series) should get a quick way to join old gen version. At this point its not realistic to expect we will get console only crossplay in the next gen version.
i just enjoyed an entire days worth of playing with Crossplay OFF, on PS5. European Region.
I dont really understand people who deny the reality of PC players having advantage over console players. The new map makes the gap even bigger because its a [edited] and your aim and reaction time are even more important. I can have a positive k/d with crossplay on but my gaming is more like arma. Playing like I do against only console players will result in rather poor score.
