I have some years in developing games/interactions. Mostly asset and map creation.
Though i'm not stating I know best.
I would say these maps are kind of bad. Too flat. They feel "sectioned" and not that connected. More different elevations would do alot. Thinking of a armored veichle in a small city. Then infantry could use different elevations to tackle it.
Better map design i would say is totally realisticly possible to improve. I get the idea of open tank battles on a field and inf. Fight in close quarters in the same map. Totally doable. Been done before. Now , the maps are just slightly too wide. Remove maybe 25% of the map just to tighten it a little. In my opinion.
Ofc.
Voip, more Guns, scoreboard, tweeking.
Bf4, with a splash of squad, arma.
Remember playing BF2 mod Project Reality. Good times.
Bf2 was also very good game to compete in. Did some tournaments in europe.
Bf2's progression of content was perfect. Loved those expansions.
But the engine was .. well good for its time.
Maybe a bit of bf2 progression , with bf4 maps , with bfv movement , squad hardcore features.
Not so realisticly 🙈

The perfect game is impossible.
But there are a lot of reasons why BF 2042 is not even close to any kind of perfection.
We are all annoyed by bugs of course but that's not even the Problem in this game. Even if all Bugs are fixed the game remains mediocre.
If you buy a new game of a series you expect something new and something better. Improve the qualities of the predecessor and learn from past mistakes.
In this case it feels like every feature just became worse...
Worse maps, gunplay, vehicle physics, air physics, squadplay and -management, partysystem, server browser, scoreborad, minimap, progression, sounds, destruction and even the graphics seems like they got tuned down and are better in BFV. I can't think of a single feature that has improved in 2042 compared to any BF in the past 10 years. They are not even just the same "copy-paste" quality that CoD gets accused to all the time. They just got worse...
The approach to add specialists is appreciated but after 3 rounds their voicelines already annoy me. They are not fitting into the setting on how their personalities are made.
The Gadgets and passives are cool and all but combined with the freedom to equip everything with every specialist is a huge imbalanced failure and so are 128 player.
I remember an interview with an DICE dev back on BF3 release where he said that 128 would already be possible but they could not make it work because gameplay gets worse with too many players. They said it just wasn't fun. Well.. we all wanted more players, bigger maps and more of everything anyway. But guess what? He was right. It's just no improvement compared to 64p. It's way worse in fact.
So in the end we don't need a perfect game. But BF 2042 is a step back in every direction and that's why I'm so super sad about the game. It could have been great but they just decided to ingore everything they learned in the past 20 years of Battlefield and produce this lacklustre game...
With all that said. I still think the game can be saved.
They should integrate portal more into the main game. Like 64 player servers and let the Portal maps rotate with the new maps. (In previous games the remake maps were just a part of the normal game after all. In 2042 it feels seperated too much)create more official playlists with more gamemodes, with a serverbrowser so we can actually play with a bigger group of friends.
And please start to look back at the older games we all loved so much. You did a great Job in remaking the maps. Now take a look at remaking the features. Improve on the solid work from before and not just throw it away like it was trash.
