I was no fan of the specialists after the beta and now I am really getting worried about BF2042.
After seeing the rest, it seems like this is becoming ApexField, which is not really BF anymore. Giving people "wallhacks" (the worst of them) is bad and can end up being a real 'fun-killer'. Just like the special classes in BF1, it becomes 'stupid' to play against some of these specialists.
Hopefully the reveal are just a "showcase" of the specialists and their abilities will have long cooldown-timers to not be a big problem.
If the focus moves away from gunplay/positioning and more towards gadget use/special abilities, then BF2042 will probably be another flop in BF community...

The main thing that bothers me is their goofy, cliche cartoon appearance. What happened to the more serious battlefield? You know, war?
Ironically, this solider looks exactly what I thought we would get with 2042 yet he's not in the game (unless im blind).

Somebody in comments made a good point, How come in the trailers, all the soldiers are generic versus the specialists, but when we play everyone is identical?
Its a valid point.

@cso7777Portal makes your whole argument seem pointless. Play how ever the heck you want.

Wall hacks?
You mean things like T-UGS, Motion Sensor Balls and spotting flares?
Come on Gents, let's not let personal incredulity over Specialists wipe out your memories.
- cso77774 years agoSeasoned Ace
@WienerBeardI know that very well.
But when Dice pushes specialists this hard, it will probably come with some 'penalties' when only playing portal, like assignments (even unlocks?) not being possible in portal, because you have to play certain specialists/game modes (like HZ).
They seem very focused on monetizing the game (outfits etc) and that will probably be the main focus for Dice, not caring for the old 'BF-community'. - 4 years ago@Trokey66 Well you are correct. One thing with flares, at least we can shoot them out the sky. I wonder how many do not know this still to this day.
And with all that stuff, I was never a fan to be honest.
OMG, I just realized we do have motion sensor balls with wall hacks...lol - 4 years ago@cso7777 Well anyone who thinks BF is competitive and wants to flash stats can chunk that in the trash to be honest. I mean we got bots, which eliminate any bragging rights for skill imo.
All valid points you made. Are we having assignments now with battlepass? - L1gmuh_J0hnny4 years agoRising Ace@cso7777 Yea true dat, guess I didn't think about that aspect like achievements and such. Still I have a feeling Portal is gonna be a lot of fun and looking forward to that more than anything.
Portal seems like a game changer to me and probably the best idea Dice has had in a long time. guess we'll see. - 4 years ago@WienerBeard Well, it would have been good for Dice to point that out. They didn't. So makes one curious as to why...

Wallhack should be removed. Change it to minimap spotting only like a personal uav but also relay that information to the squad like how NetBat worked in 2142.
Riot Shield shouldn't reflect bullets. Explosion and bullet resistance is already pretty powerful.

The big problem will be balancing specialists.
Apex legends is one long journey of balancing/adjusting skills of the legends and this could easily be the same for BF
We know that Dice has this one-size-fits-all approach and things that work in HZ will perhaps be very problematic in conquest.
This can also mean that the game is 'half-broken' a lot of the time, because some specialists will be OP, until their skills are adjusted. This will be an ongoing issue especially when Dice introduces more new specialists over time.
From history we know that Dice often are very slow to make adjustments to the game and this could end up be very annoying in BF2042. Now they not only has to balance weapons/vehicles but specialists also.

@cso7777 I just don't see DICE being able to balance every permutation of Specialist and gadget combination that the community can come up with when traditionally DICE couldn't balance individual weapons and vehicles in a vacuum reliably. Let us also not forget DICE's propensity to over-nerf when they do balance things.

Welp that just saved me 60 bucks.
Lets hope the next one they go back to actual battlefield.

Not to mention they have a propensity for over reacting to balance issues that often ends up with them spending several months of work and patches on a single issue.
- 4 years ago@Noodlesocks like the Type 2A?

@ragnarok013That about sums it up.
Not to mention the "new" specialists we'll get, going by what's been shown so far, will probably fall into the "counter the other guy" category.
If not they'll have to come up with some "revolutionary" gadget each time they want a new skin bumper, and i don't see that happening.
My first nerf money now goes on the wallhack specialist, closely followed by whoever can blank out their map/spot ping (maybe reverse order) - SirBobdk4 years agoSeasoned Ace
It's ok to try something new, like 4-6 specialists instead of classes with access to all weapons and gadgets.
I would have been ok with that. But 20+ specialists with more or less weird specialties is just ridiculous and can prove impossible to balance.
Again we get a system for the sake of the system and not for the gameplay.
- 4 years ago@Noodlesocks How is this a "wallhack"?
