Repair Tool Overheats Fast

So in BFV there was no such thing as a repair tool overheating, in titles before that overheating did exist.  I am ok with a repair tool overheating, but as it is now, it overheats in like 3-5 seconds, which is too fast.  Needs a balance or removing the overheat option.

  • @Steve081372 There has always been a overheating mechanic with the repair tool where it automatically stops repairing after a while.

There was just no indicator for it until now but the mechanic has always existed in previous games.

Yes all except the most recent title BFV there was no overheat function.  You can fact check it, but repair tools in BFV can repair forever non stop… use it all the time and is such a critical tool :-)

    thanks for the feedback

3-5 second sounds really not that much, seems it needs to get raised a little bit.

No overheat at all sounds also not so good, as it might be too easy then to simply have people continue nonstop repairing a friends vehicle while he is farming kills.

  • It was definitely not 3 seconds although it was certainly shorter than past entries - but that was by design. Repair tool reform was a long time coming. It's always been too easy to negate damage done to a vehicle with the repair tool. I go into more detail here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Battlefield/comments/o9px7c/repairing_the_repair_tool/

In summary, the repair tool in its 2042 beta form is pretty well balanced and provides a definite and demonstrable advantage over waiting for auto repair to kick in. It's a niche gadget that is great for drivers or passengers, but it is not nor should it be expected to be the dominant choice among gadgets. We have to remember that there will likely be around 10 options for gadgets so assuming even distribution of gadgets among players that would be about 6 per 64 man team. So yes you're likely not going to see a ton of them in the wild, but that does not mean that they are under powered.

What we want to avoid are situations where a vehicle is down to 1 HP and then is full repaired a few seconds later. And, perhaps more importantly, situations where a repair tool user can conceal themselves during a firefight and provide constant repairing such that it effectively negates all the received damage rendering the tank near immortal.
