SBMM and Squad Management

Hello EA/Dice and BF Community

I would like to quickly discuss the current implementation of the SBMM (Server Based Matchmaking) and Squad Management.

Current implementation of the SBMM would rotate and mix all current players to set up a balanced game. However this creates a few concerns. Battlefield games are team play focused but with the current SBMM your squad and entire team seems to get mixed again with every round. There is no opportunity to get used to your squad mates or how to best defeat the other team. Every round is a new group. Maybe SBMM should rather try to balance the current server and keep people together until a player decides to leave. It would also remove the problem that you play the same 3 maps over and over again.

This leads to the squad management which is not really existent. If you play in a group of 5 or more players there is no easy way to join the game, jump on the squad and then stick together. The EA Party option should either allow for more than 4 players so that everybody stays together. Then the problem becomes how to manage the squad, make space for a friend to join. Overall the options in BF5 seemed to have served squad management better.  Maybe there are parts of the implementation which can be adapted to work in BF2042.

I guess in the end it comes down to create an environment with more freedom to the players :-)

Sincerely

  • In Battlefield 1, the competition was strong, and this made me love the game more. When we play against a team, the competition continues for other matches. When we see them online , we enter the server and play against them again, and this thing does not exist now, which is one of the reasons why my friends do not buy the game, and theres no mods in basic game like ( TDM , Rush ,,,) in AOW

They've been dying to implement SBMM for years, they tried it in BFV, everyone hated it so they removed it, so guess what? They put it in 2042, genius... No one wants it, no one likes it.

Exactly. Team and squad management needs to be revamped and fleshed out to better fit friends who want to play with more than one 4 person  squad in a match. There are many communities that have large groups of people playing all at the same time and would like to all be playing within the same match.  In a game that lets you play with 32-64 players on a team you’d think this would be a priority.

I don't believe they've overlooked it, I believe they've gone in that direction on purpose so I honestly don't think they'll change it. There is so many scoreboard/squad features missing on top of whats already been mentioned that it's just too much to be a coincidence. For example:

Can't see players kill count in scoreboard

Can't text chat to enemy team

    No rank shown on scoreboard

Can't see what classes people are using on scoreboard

Can't see who's in what vehicle on the scoreboard

All these scoreboard issues alomg with the SBMM point to the fact that they don't want any random people squadding up and having fun for a few games in a row while also having banter and rivalry with the enemy team. The fact that you have to use a quick join system to a random server, then you can't create squads or communicate with the enemy team, then after the match you are all split up and booted out to random servers just simply can't be an accident. It's quite clear that for whatever reason that this is how they want people to play even though I'd bet good money that a large majority of the player base would prefer the old classic setup of server browser, choose game you want to play, create and join squads of like minded players, form a bond, form rivalry with the enemy team and all play a few rounds together and have fun.

I mean, there's nothing more entertaining than headshotting the same dude over and over round after round and having a load of banter about it in the chat. The lack of all the above features is a real problem IMO and really fragments the players and makes the whole experience very sterile, almost like you are just playing a single player game or playing against bots. Without the scoreboard kills and text chat no one has any identity any more.

Well they overlooked that people would build XP farms in Portal. So I think this could be an overlooked feature or it is just not final yet.

Please all add XP to this and Me Too so it gets attention. Thanks 👍

Surely they must have seen bot farming coming a mile off, if not then all hope is lost.
