- @ATFGunr I agree, the signs on the wall are not very positive. So far the only official news we had that concerns the next BF title are leadership changes and closing down a studio, and now we get another studio on board.
On that new studio, I've played a bit of Star Wars: Squadrons, but eventually dropped that game because it had a too steep learning curve. If they will be involved in any of the aerial vehicle gameplay, the days of everybody and their grandma being able to control a chopper are over!
Another thing that caught my eye, they now refer to Stadium as a revamped map rather than a new map. - Man_iLoveFishing2 years agoSeasoned Ace

I'm somewhat relieved to not have the weekly Battlepass grind. I can just uninstall it and move on. I doubt they are going to fix the rest of the outstanding issues, so that'll be it for me. What an absolute ***show of a release it's been. Yes, massively improved since launch, but they've continued to ignore the requests and feedback from the community, and for a franchise built from it's communities - that's unforgiveable. Where they have tried to make positive changes they've been very poorly implemented. The balance is all wrong, the game is not fun to play - maybe infantry only is OK.
I won't be pre-ordering the next one. First time ever for me. But they should look at the likes of Helldivers for tips on how to listen to and engage with the community, and how to release content that drives the game and the fun factor forwards.

Now that source is from Tom Henderson so take it with a grain of salt It was about time ! Battlefield 2042 was a total failure from the start. I have to admit that they improved the game in the end, but it has nothing to do with the BATTLEFIELD franchise. Movement in BF2042 gives you the impression that you are playing need for speed, that's how fast the character moves. In general, the feeling offered by BF 2042 is identical to Star Wars Battlefront or Apex, nothing like true old BATTLEFIELD. I recently played BF 3, BF 4 and even BF Hardline and I find the true feeling of the BATTLEFIELD game. Let's not forget the atmosphere of Battlefield 1 and Battlefield V.
I am very curious in which direction the franchise is headed. It will be the first time I won't pre-purchase the game, will wait so see reviews, so from my side this is the culmination of the franchise. Either save the franchise, or I will completely forget about Battlefield and will play BF3 and BF4 until they close the servers.
- Hudson15312 years agoSeasoned Ace@iGallilleo I have a feeling and would bet $1 million V bucks that the next BF title will have a BF4 vibe.
Might be wrong - @Hudson1531 That would be amazing.

@RUMPLE9They already confirmed the next game for 2025 thoughNo they didn’t. It doesn’t reflect in the financials for 2025. They have a weird dating system, so I think they reset to 2026 in the fall of 2025, so maybe it could pop out late in 2025… but I seriously doubt it. It’s 2026 at the soonest. If they rush it again, it will be another nightmare as the roll out for 2042 was.
EA’s fiscal year always ends on March, 31st. Andrew Wilson did mention in an analysts call last year that the next title is not within FY25. This obviously means not before March ‘25. Now, with the officially announced curtain call on ‘2042’ plus the hiring of a new studio I’d wager we’re entering the relatively final stages of development of the new game. It would not make sense for it to be released much later than June ‘25, I’d speculate.
Interestingly also, a Credit Suisse analyst predicts two BF titles within the next four years:
- ATFGunr2 years agoLegend@TheseusJason I’ll be happy to be wrong 😉
When 2042 came out EA were telling us that they were going all in with Battlefield, there would be a mobile game, a single player campaign, an expansion of the BF "universe", etc, etc, etc None of this happened. Mobile was cancelled, the team behind the single player has been closed (although I think another team has taken over?) and nothing else has been add to the universe of Battlefield. A lot of hot air from EA execs, and I will always be of the opinion that it was EA that screwed up BF2042 resulting in many long standing DICE devs quitting. Publishers need to stay the hell away from what the game makers are doing, and just trust them. Look at Suicide Squad, I cannot believe this is the game Rocksteady wanted to make.
Work will already be well under way on the next title, so I expect to see the next game in Oct/Nov 2025 and I expect it will have a single player campaign; like the previous titles did. But that is one long wait and over the next 18 months I imagine 2042 will die out.
On the other hand, we'll probably get a trailer for BF "next" this time next year. And laughably they will probably invite us to pre-order, bwaaahaaahaaahaaaa
NATO vs a private mercenary army, that's fine, it means they can widen the scope of weapons and vehicles and make up some decent kit for the mercs. But I do feel like this is also a case of DICE distancing themselves from their previous games; they don't want to set to real nations against each other in a game. Even though, y'know, it's just a game. Clearly (and there's no other way to put it) there is some "snowflake" influence going on.
