Series x upgrade

G'day guys.

First of all, sorry if this is the wrong place for this question, it's a big site and can be somewhat confusing if you don't know what you are doing. Like me 😪

Let's get to the point..

I bought what seems to be an xbox one version of 2042. Now, I have read on lots of  sites that there is a next gen upgrade or will be, but how does one actually do this??

I have tried to search in the store but that doesn't help at all. It just wants me to purchase different copies of it. I have also tried looking for it in the battlefield settings where you manage the game and add ons in the xbox also, with no option.

Am I doing something wrong, is this option even available? I have the digital copy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • @Stormchoir77 There's no upgrade path for standard edition. You need a digital copy of the gold or ultimate edition to download next-gen version of 2042.

I currently have an Xbox One, but might buy an Xbox One Series X|S in the future. Will you have other upgrade paths available in the future if I decide to purchase the Standard Edition on Xbox One?

We presently have no plans for any alternative upgrade paths. This is also true of the experience on PlayStation 4.

  • Thats a * and a half.

I can get a disk copy of 2042 for less than $10. If I were to buy this, how would I go with progression?  I am currently 63, I'm assuming because  its the standard series x version I'd lose my progression?  And would my xbox do weird stuff having 2 copies on my account?

    Hey @Stormchoir77,

Let me try to shine some light on the topic.

Battlefield 2042 indeed released for a lot of platforms; the Xbox One (X/S)/PS4, Xbox Series S|X/PS5 and the PC. It is indeed the case that, for the console versions of Battlefield 2042, there are versions available that include something that is called a dual-entitlement. This means that the specific game version includes a version for the old gen consoles (Xbox One (X/S)/PS4) and an upgraded version of the game for the newer consoles (Xbox Series S|X/PS5).

Originally, the game would release with only the Gold/Ult versions including the dual-entitlement offer. However, this was changed some time before the launch to also include the Standard edition of the game, for (I believe) $10 more.

However, there is also a Standard edition of the game available without the dual-entitlement offer. This is the cheapest version of the game, and is only available for the old gen consoles. It's possible that you have purchased this version.

If you have purchased the Standard version that is without the dual-entitlement offer, there's indeed unfortunately not a possibility to upgrade it to another version to include the dual-entitlement (it's not possible to purchase an upgrade either), I am afraid.

The only possibility to 'upgrade', would be to purchase a new copy of the game for the console version you want to play it on, if you decide to upgrade and want to make use of the next-gen features on the current gen consoles.

Regarding your progression; you do not have to worry about this. Battlefield 2042 is the first Battlefield that makes use of cross-progression. That means that if you make progress in one game or version of the game on a certain platform, you can carry that over to another version of the game, on another platform etc. It syncs back and forward.

    Hope this helps. 🙂

If you have an xsx I would recommend using the old gen version. It’s the only way to play with console only players. There is no way to start a game on XSX with crossplay off so you have to play with PC players which is an awful gaming experience.

  • @obscene I agree. Right now it's useless to upgrade due to the extreme advantage PC has over Xbox series since last patch. As you say it's impossible to find games with crossplay turned off also
