Why not? Why remove sniper viability in close/medium range engagements when most other weapons have viability at long ranges? If snipers are to be nerfed in these engagements, why not nerf AR's at long range and make them unusable at anything above 100 meters?

@tomaisboredYou can make snipers more viable without making them 1shot kills. I don't like 1shot bodyshot kills, most people generally don't.
Make ADSing decently faster, increase muzzle velocity generally a pinch, does the recon swap speed thing really work?, make glint not show through smoke and only show from far away (which is where it's intended for anyways), mildly bump up bodyshot damage. The average sniper rifle deals 60 bodyshot damage beyond extremely close range, that's too low, the DXR with HP ammo deals 75 which is also a bit low.I forgot, but, VERY IMPORTANT, fix the cocking animation taking too long with the faster ammo types/short barrel, which means you have to shoot with the corner of your scope or something as you're cocking, it's weird and annoying. I wonder how many people even know this? Sniper rifles can have a decent ROF.

The only thing I can say I enjoy about this game now is going Sniper Hunting when I'm forced into doing by the players themselves.
The sheer lack of team work has destroyed this game, and it's not just the fault of the player base either, it's the lack of encouragement from the developers.
None of these "Classes" are rewarded properly for performing their individual roles effectively.
For example, I have played Falk for ages, I tend to stick with my squad and provide rear guard cover from the other side trying to either out-flank us or getting behind us, and this way I am behind my squad and can keep an eye on them, and as soon as one is downed I am there reviving them, not running past them, and straight away the syrette pistol comes out, and I'll pop a couple in them to top off their health.
Also, whilst I'm covering them, I will again be popping syretts in them randomly to ensure they keep their health rate up as much as possible whilst taking on the enemy. All this time we are moving as a squad to take the objective, or destroy it if playing Rush etc.
However, what really miffs me off is when I join a game where there are so many campers it's unreal. And before any Sniper Gurus come after me yes, I know how the Sniping thing is supposed to work, but, when you have literally the WHOLE squad going as Sniper then that's where I lose it.
That's where I will equip myself with The PKP, Long Barrel, 4X Scope and Bipod. And I have to say I find it incredibly satisfying taking out the Campers that are NOT playing the objective in any form, I literally just pump bullets into them, and boy they do not like it.
All I have to do is keep an eye out for that ridiculously huge and bright search light that tells me exactly where they are. I have a rough idea because they have shot me once before whilst I'm doing what I have stated above, and of course because we have no Real Hardcore Mode in this silly game, it shows me on the screen where they are, and that's how I know they are just camping there because they stay there, they don't move, even when shot multiple times.
And it's pretty much a given in this game that you will find the same kind of people camping in the exact same places in the various maps, just out for themselves.
The answer to this from my perspective would be to limit the amount of snipers on both sides, or at the very least make it so there can only be 1 per squad, but I prefer the first option, so in a 64 player based game round of 32 per side, then let's not have more than 4 or 5 snipers, not 16 or 21, which I have seen believe me, it's just silly.
