That's good. That thing and the entire idea about Boris in general sickens me and it is an extremely low skill and cheap tactic. Same applies to the Ranger, auto aim and wall hack by AI are not "fun" mechanics. They have no place in a PvP shooter at all. The entire playstyle of Boris focused on placing down the turret in a stupid spot and wait until someone showed up, how fun is that?
I’d argue that BF isn’t a PVP shooter, in that it isn’t supposed to be just about player on player shooting.
it’s about team play, strategy and over-coming the fact there are vehicles. bF has always been a combined arms game.
so the turret isn’t that much of an obstacle to over come, and if you want to run around Willy nilly without consequence and only want to engage with other players, then quite frankly BF isn’t the game for you.
if anything vehicles, turrets etc should be stronger. I.e a real threat to over come. Demanding team coordination. But with a longer cool down on when the vehicles could come back into play. .
unfortunatly it seems Dice have targeted a new audience for BF. That just want quick kills and vapid engagements.
Personally I don’t enjoy BF2042, and I’m forever in hope they’ll redirect the emphasis on play.
but I won’t hold my breath.

The problem is much less with SOME turret being in the game and were there say 5 turrets placed at random locations, shooting at players automatically, this would still suck, but it would not be AS BAD.
The issue many players -- me included -- have with the sentry gun is that it encourages and rewards a play style that is detrimental to team play and us often if not always used as a way to get cheap kills without any requiring any skill on part of the player.
1) place turret on ground
2) lay in a bush or hide in a corner
3) wait until the turret spots a player (EVEN THROUGH WALLS!)
4) (optional) wait until said player starts shooting at the turret
5) get a free kill on the player
5b) if turret is destroyed, place new turret and hide again
6) goto 3)
Turrets don't require teamwork (from neither side), so your argument about team play does not apply.
The whole design is so stupid and so wrong that it is a bad sign in itself it took Dice so long to finally nerf it.
BTW: the same is true for the ranger to some extend. It does not require (not even allow for) teamwork to have one running with you and it does not require it to destroy one. They are decoys that distract enemies to get easier kills. Stupid and bad design plain and simple.
I understand that players might enjoy easy kills. I for one also run with K30 and get a lot of hate by my clan mates for doing that. But getting killed by this gun when being myself limited to the ones that require more skill is not enjoyable for me. So I use the OP guns as well. Shame on me I guess. - UP_Hawxxeye4 years agoLegend
At this point I would revamp it into a manual deployable stationary gun
- BR-DuaneDibbley4 years agoSeasoned Ace@UP_Hawxxeye
If this thing then only shoots if the player is actively using it while standing behind said gun, I guess this would be a compromise. - UP_Hawxxeye4 years agoLegend@DuaneDibbley yes this way the target won't lose precious time choosing where to shoot at if the threat ends by nailing the operator

Shame on me I guess.I can totally see both sides of the argument. I am working on getting to T1 with Boris (just to do them all, not looking forward to Sundance or Dozer...) and got most of the damage points via the zombie XP farm, thankfully. I will say, the gun by itself is not very good for damage, it only shoots in small bursts and not enough to take down a player. It's not nearly as good as the old Engineer sentry guns in Team Fortress (Classic or 2, pick your poison), but again, it's a different game with faster TTK [for the most part]. During my time of leveling up Boris I am almost always on defense (or an attacker defending one of two points) and put it down in a good position to cover a doorway and either sit next to it for the damage boost or opposite of it to have a crossfire attack.
I fully understand why people find the gun annoying, I've been killed some with it (although honestly not that often) and find the ranger to be more annoying than the sentry. Maybe if the sentry didn't have a cooldown and if it dies it is done for the life of the player?
- DaveTheBrave_USA4 years agoSeasoned Ace@Anobix This particular version of BF never encouraged team play. Squad orders are rarely given and squad leaders like myself who do issue squad orders have to continually reissue them because they are cancelled even when the objective status has not changed. You have to reissue it over and over and it's a real pain in the * and I can see why many players don't issue squad orders and I don't complain about it anymore (run-on sentence). Just the same the squad leadership is not affected if a squad order is requested and none is given, unlike BF1 and BF5. Also VOIP which we had to fight for to get put in the game in the first place has not worked properly from day 1 of being patched in. So there is is no direction and everyone runs around like chickens with their heads cut off. All you can do is follow the biggest crowd attacking an objective. Placing the sentry was a good strategy, now I guess it's a pop gun.
- Anobix4 years agoSeasoned Ace@DaveTheBrave_USA Yep absolutely agreed. The squad orders is completely worthless, for what it's worth the leadership thing would change hands as far back as BF4 as well [unsure if it was in BF3 as I haven't played that for a long time]. But then again, there's no point(s) for following squad orders like in previous games either. Extra points for helping squadmates, extra for capturing marked points, etc are gone as far as I can tell. I imagine the pointer system (Q) overwrites orders as well so if you mark someone and had a point marked to cap it probably overwrites it (or I wouldn't be surprised if it did).
At this point, the sentry is mostly a decoy... at least it spots for your squad now? - DaveTheBrave_USA4 years agoSeasoned Ace@Anobix Yes that's exactly right. The bonus points for capturing a squad ordered objective are gone now. If that's not a dead giveaway that team play was not a design objective of this game, what is?

Shame on me I guess. If I leave a turret behind to cover a base flag, it’s not a cheap kill. That makes no sense. There really isn’t such a thing as a cheap kill. I mean it’s an automatic turrent. As for not taking any skill, so what, it’s a turrent. Don’t run out in the open like your amped up on drugs.
that said, I’d have no problem with A) turrets only operating if your in range. B) max turrets in an area, perhaps hackable to shoot each other by one of the specialists.
also turrets shouldn’t highlight players behind walls, that’s kinda dumb.
id rather turrets throw less damage but more accurate and quicker.
Yeah turrets are cheap kills when you run around completely unaware of your surroundings and not even running with a squad.
- BR-DuaneDibbley4 years agoSeasoned Ace@FlibberMeister
If you play it that way, you are 1 in 100 players. Everyone not playing boris can attest to that.
And as you said, those turrets are easily countered, so they don't work to 'cover an area'.
But the other 99% of Boris players execute the algorithm I described in my post above. And this had to be stopped. - 4 years ago@DuaneDibbley They nerfed the k30 in the latest patch
- DaveTheBrave_USA4 years agoSeasoned Ace@emerson1975 The only thing is you have to stay within the rather small control circle area for the turret to be most effective.
If people actually ran with a squad or a general group of people they would find turrets very easy to beat. And people crying about boris players prone next to the turret is laughable because “thats his actual job” why on earth do you think it has a green ring around the turret.
- UP_Hawxxeye4 years agoLegend@emerson1975 well this is gaming and people will cry over any death that was not part of arranged duel 😥
- ElliotLH4 years agoHero+
Arguments about using the turret aside, it wouldn't hurt for Dice to consider making changes to the requirement for T1. The same could be said for some of the other specialists as well I think, like Sundance.
- 4 years ago@ElliotLH How sundance hasn’t had a nerf is beyond me!
- ElliotLH4 years agoHero+@emerson1975 The wingsuit is a bit much. Feels good when you kill one mid-flight though.
What I find most annoying it’s that boris and Irish have abilities that can easily countered by a simple gun and once you have destroyed their abilities they then turn into a bog standard soldier! thus are by far the weakest character until their abilities have regenerated.
All other characters keep their abilities until they die! So how is boris overpowered?
The reason why sundance hasn’t been nerfed is because dice know full well the majority play as sundance so a nerf could possibly lower the player count! - FlibberMeister4 years agoSeasoned Ace
I think the wingsuit pushes the realism a bit too far out of the envelope for suspending disbelief. And it ruins it a bit for me when the winged squirrel flies from a one story building several hundred meters.
that said, opening a parachute in the same scenario is also kinda rediculous. But Not as bad as the wingsuit.
Id be happy if the wingsuit had a min height requirement. I.e anything BASE jump height. Towers etc.
and opening the wingsuit any lower would cause the player to just face plant lol.
all joking aside, the wing suit is just wtf.

That would be ideal TBH. Some specialists could really benefit from that. And also make T1 is rather not tied to nerfs that much.
Nerf a bloke with a turret whilst you have a flying superman with 3 types of grenades to use lol makes sense in bizzaro world!
- BR-DuaneDibbley4 years agoSeasoned Ace
@emerson1975
Well than we can agree that it would be best to remove both (together with the other 8) and bring back the classes that make Battlefield Battlefield!
Well, the feedback loop for the Specialists should start any minute now I guess, so we can all tell them just that. 😉 - 4 years ago
Yep I agree but it’s not gonna happen so I can only comment on what we have now.
All they have done is made boris a complete non entity now because the sentry is all he had and it’s been nerfed into oblivion and this barely makes him better than a bog standard soldier whilst sundance is some sort of superhero.

Hi all,
We're reviewing if the T1 requirements for Boris need adjusting. We'll continue monitoring your feedback on the changes to the SG-36 Sentry Gun that went live in Update 0.4.1.
