So, I’ve read the storyline behind the game, but I’m still confused about the factions. When you load into a match, the bottom left-hand corner of the screen will say either US Marines Command or Russian Ground Forces Command. However, from what I’ve read in the storyline, the No-Pats are independent forces. So, when you are playing as No-Pats, are you part of either the US Marines or Russian Ground Forces, or are you playing as a separate faction of entirely?

@BFmarine0 my favorite part is the Russian No-Pat fighting on the US Side killing another Russian No-Pat fighting on the RU side that looks just like him.

@BFmarine0 There is no factions, or story. There’s different games made in Covid bubbles by different teams, that had different ideas for the game as management obviously had not provided clear direction or supervision. When time came to merge the sections, this is the result. A disconnected game with no direction or sense of purpose. Darn shame too. Could have mixed various uniforms, weapons and vehicles from around the world and given us something really interesting.

The lore in this game is so silly. Just give us US vs Russia with the actual uniforms of the ground forces. I miss the days of seeing a pilot who ejected (coward go down with your ship) running around in a pilots outfit. I miss being able to see what loadout someone has just based on their uniform. I miss seeing actual soldiers run around.

So, how do factions work in Battlefield 2042?

No-Pads grab data drives from crashed satellites and sell them to the highest bidder.
Ahh, and Conquest and Rush don't fit in that Background.

@Bolvard oh now that is funny. How could a game be so creatively mismanaged?

After doing BF1 and BFV and not having a modern shooter in a decade, this was supposed to be an easy win for the BF franchise. You could just take BF4 and add some modernization like the plus system, new vehicles, even add the Specialists, just lock them to classes and factions, and go.

There's no functional narrative/lore in this game so don't bother trying to figure it out. A few bio cards for specialists and a few blog posts ain't it, and there's zero expression of any world building, narrative, lore, backstory, or even any real character/personality in these lifeless maps (complete with hilarious PS1-era seagulls to highlight it).
I don't know why they've bothered when it seems clear they don't know how to design narrative through gameplay and maps. We're just mercs fighting for one side or another, with dozens of clones of ourself running around because that makes a ton of sense.

I thought 2042 is a proxy war with no pats being backed by the American and Russian governments. No pats are being supplied with military equipment along with specialist soldiers sent in as 'military advisors'.
