So many complaints in this game would be solved if people used teamwork

This has always been an issue in the Battlefield series, but 2042 it was dialed up to 11. An issue that the new BF developers need to control. They need to put up barriers to stop this from getting out of hand. Supporting and incentivizing lone wolf/selfish gameplay styles that flourish in games like CoD or Bad Company do NOT work in the Battlefield series. It causes issues. Frustrations. Bad reviews. The developers need to adapt else they're gonna get ire every release like they have been.

So many times there is a section of the map where my entire team is getting decimated because they're running across areas with no cover. You know what would solve the issue? Using smoke. But nobody uses smoke because its not viable to maximize k/d and kills. There are times when I've played on something like breakthrough and we won flags because I would sit there as angel spamming smoke every inch of where the defenders were. Its such an effective tool, but because DICE put in all these gadgets and specialist that support and heavily reward selfish gameplay...they don't get used. Its amazing how many games I've played where underbarrel smoke isn't used. Where the smoke launcher nade isn't used. Where smoke nades aren't used. It can alleviate SO MANY frustrations with map designed if people actually used them.

Healing/Support. Another thing. Oh look another Falyk or Medcrate user who prioritizes using those tools on themselves. They're not playing support. They're there to heal themselves and basically be an assault class. Its amazing how effective a good Falyk can make your team. Range healing allies when they need it. Or playing one of the other support and using medcrate to heal allies. Its amazing how infrequent support is actually prioritizing keeping people alive. Rezzing is getting better over time, which is a nice thing to see. But you still see 10-30% of a matches support players straight up ignore rezzing people.

Anti Vehicle - Because 50%+ of the map is playing assault (why wouldn't you, MacKay and Sundance are so insanely OP and DICE has done little to balance them in a year), vehicles are not getting the pressure they should. I'll sit there being the only person running AA. Or I'll mark with SOFLAM and barely anyone takes advantage of it. I'll sit there and watch the same stealth heli kill the same 20-30 infantry over and over and over again. And instead of adapting, they'll keep playing their selfish playstyles cause they get the most points. Then they sit there and complain how OP vehicles are. How poorly designed they are. YOU HAVE THE TOOLS TO STOP THEM. I have to sit there camping with Lis for most of the game because its the only way I can actually put a stop to it. Every few games I'll get in one where people actually say they're gonna use my soflam and take advantage of it. And we shut down vehicles like its nobodies business. Its amazing. It would alleviate soooo many issues with infantry vs vehicle that people complain about. No, MacKay and Sundance do not need AA or AT. The fact that a portion of the population thinks the solution to this issue is to make MacKay and Sundance even more overpowered because they can't be bothered to switch to engineer speaks volumes.

Spawning - Recon spawns are so useful. They're so so so so so useful. Its amazing if you get a few squads attacking a location and one person in each squad has a beacon. It  changes the game so much. But again, very few people are running recon.

Armor Sniping - Since everyone and their mother has C5 equipped and it only takes 3 to actually take down a vehicle. No armor wants to get close. Armor is important for puncturing a hole in defenders. Putting pressure on them and providing cover (both offensive cover and something to block shots with). So now all armor are sitting in the back sniping. Meaning that those issues with attacking a defended location or the map issues (like the smoke grenade) is dialed up. When I play a game like HLL, its not uncommon to see infantry using armor as a mobile cover. Many times Armor is not sitting across the map sniping people. They're providing close heavy support attacking a flag or taking out other armor. Promoting tank sniping just is another selfish gameplay style.

Assault classes in this game, especially MacKay and Sundance, are probably one of the most unhealthies things I've seen implemented in a Battlefield game. Combine this with gadgets like armor plating, C5, etc. The amount of selfish players in 2042 is off the charts right now thanks to really poor balance. DICE, you need to put up barriers. You need to get people to play as a team. The foundation of a Battlefield game does not support a bad company or CoD style of play. It creates a lot of issues. Because at the core, Battlefield introduces challenges to players that require teamwork. Attacking heavily defended locations. Taking down aircraft and tanks. Armor and infantry working together. You need to design the game to push players to play this way. If you push them into playing the game like CoD, you get what you see in 2042.

I've played Battlefield since 1942. I played ETQW. I played Ps1 and 2. I played frontlines fuels of war. Squad. HLL. 2042 has to have some of the most selfish players and entitled players I've seen in game.

  • @Defias123 Wrong. Lone wolf can get things done in a stealthy way, can cap a quiet flag while the team fights elsewhere. You don't want to win?

Basically the big classes nerf is what destroyed the teamplay aspect. Tools are unusable. Players cannot adapt without them. Now you have to live with that until we get the devs to fix the game.

I've seen this many times recently. You wanted classes so vehicles can live longer, never thinking the game would collapse like this. Nerf this, nerf that, make demands on loadouts, at some point people are just gonna walk away and find a better game that wasn't trolled apart a year after its launch. If you actually played BF you should know that teams are pulled in dozens of directions at once, so it's not so much a team of 32+ (with zero hope of working together), but tons of little groups doing their thing working towards the goal of getting the objectives.

It's all up to the people. Frankly, I've returned to the game after a few months long hiatus and all the rounds so far were quite alright, or at least not worse than in the previous Battlefields. In most rounds, people were trying to at least partially cooperate, but I don't mind when people go a lone wolf style either. I play mainly support (Falck) and I try to truly support whenever I can (revives, ammo, smoke), but sometimes I am just fed up or I feel my support is not so needed and/or there is a good opportunity to sneakily go behind and capture the flag and so I go there. If I doesn't feel bad about it, why I should judge people playing their way as well. But I have undeniably more fun when people are around, appreciating the support, reviving me back when I fall whilst trying to save somebody else, etc. And I often get that, so BF 2042 doesn't feel so bad in my experience. 🙂

  • @Defias123 1000% agree, clean teamwork is so rare and it's sad, but when you do get it the game is so much more fun, you keep each other alive, you work to get a base or flying, just another type of game, then you go back to a squad with just snipers or lone wolf players who don't use a mic or even know how, just not the same, but the teamwork and using comms just makes it a lot more fun and better gameplay.

So many problems would be solved if Dice added the means so people can play the game with more than 3 friends. But improving the social features seems to be an afterthought and wasting time and resources shoehorning in a restrictive class system to appease the whiners and babies that have no idea what actual battlefield teamwork and coordination looks like was higher on the priority list.

  • Maybe Dice should build their game around teamwork? Let me see what we got:

    • Specialists designed for RnG-gameplay and removed classes
      • Sundance is 100% lone wolf
      • Mackay is 100% lone wolf
      • Boris is 100% lone wolf
      • Paik is 100% lone wolf
      • Zain is 100% lone wolf
      • Blasco seems to be lone wolf aswell
    • Huge empty maps and 128 players, where you are not really able to make an impact as a squad
    • Less chances to actually play with someone out of your friendlist:
      • Removed server-browser
      • Removed proper squad-management
      • Removed points for acclompishing targets from the squad-leader (pure gimmick right now)

    Anyone has other ideas?
