Battlefield Bad Company 2 Vietnam DLC had some of the best maps around.
I'd like to see a full Battlefield Vietnam 2 if it was done by a competent team.
However, until then I would prefer to see a game done as close to BF3 / BF4 as possible (ensuring commander mode stays).
If you are wondering why I think the Vietnam war would be a good setting to explore again here is why;
- somewhat modern combat (proper assault rifles, jets, helicopters, etc.)
- customisation - because of the environment it was common for soldier uniforms to be less strict. Also, pretty much every Vietnam war movie has a rag tag platoon with a whole bunch of different bits of clothing or things on their clothing, so its ingrained in pop culture - ie headbands, open vests, ace of spades in helmet.
- vegetation destruction is one thing Dice is able to currently do well
- buildings will generally be smaller than those in 2042 so its easier to have entire towns and villages as destructible.
- lots of potential for gadgets / traps
- possibility of new gameplay features / gameplay styles - for example moving through tunnels so small you can only crouch / crawl through and are limited with what weapons you can use because of the space. Similarly you could have destructible tunnels so explosives going off inside or a particularly powerful explosive on the ground above could trigger a local section of the tunnel to collapse.
- lots of water based gameplay - amphibious vehicles, boats and some naval ships.
- potential for different factions US Army, US Marines, South Vietnamese, Aus, Peoples Army of Vietnam (NVA), Vietcong
- Pretty much any game associated with the Vietnam war is gritty
- Urban, villages, jungle, rural, coastal, forest, rivers, inlets - quite a few different environments to choose from all of which would have decent cover - ie no Hour Glass desert.
Also the maps would generally have good height variation.
- They can re-use assets between maps without it appearing super lazy.
- airlifting vehicles was always fun in Battlefield Vietnam, and towing mechanics from BFV could be brought back for artillery
- fortifications from BFV would actually be cool in Vietnam war setting - creating small trenches and gun emplacements within the jungle / undergrowth. Hidden sniper spots in trees. You could even have a tunneling built into the fortification system - have a number of preset tunnel paths that you can build / repair - once you've built one section you can crawl through to build the next section. The preset paths would fork and merge and have small rooms so you could build one tunnel or you could continue and build all the paths and end up with a spaghetti labyrinth but it would take a while.
