I think the general consensus here and in the broader Battlefield community is not to pre-order. I already stopped pre-ordering with BFV, and did not pick-up on BF2042 until half a year after launch when it was at discount. And for the next game I will definitely wait until after launch until I've seen multiple positive reviews and gameplay.
The key for EA will be how many new players they can attract, and how many players for whom BF2042 was their first Battlefield they can retain and convince into pre-ordering.
