In 3 and 4 yes. Sure not many times, but yes. Problem is, since it's now basically "free for all", basic stuff is forgotten since everyone can lonewolf now. Classes kind of forced people to play based on weapons like you said. Can't deny on assault issue, but still, there were medics and supporters. Not saying there isn't now, but tbh i rarely see them now. And it's not that only, its how skins look. Ah right, enemy looks the same as my team.

Specialist VS Classes
Classes - The idea, and it worked, was that you would be more successful as a squad working together and it promoted that style of game play by restricting certain items to each class. This setup always had me thinking, what does my team need to succeed in the match, and then I would choose that class. Sometimes that need would change during the match and you would switch classes to fit the role.
Specialist - No restrictions does not promoted team play as much as the classes did. You can be just as successful solo as you would be in a squad. As a specialist you can load out as 3 classes in one, so what do you need a squad mate for? It only supports team play if you choose to do so. And trust me, it is not happening as often as it did with the classes.
I actually tired to use the repair tool today just to see how it worked. Very difficult to see if your doing something or not. You have to watch the vehicle HP counter to tell if your having an affect.
I'm actually not sure if you can destroy a vehicle with one as you could before, as I have tried and been unsuccessful.

Yes, I'm wearing pink glasses. Enjoy that better teamwork now. When so said "best" meta will be in order, anything that you just mentioned will be flushed. Remember, free for all and people will always choose best outcome for scoring, killing.

People did the same in bf3 and 4. The majority on any server played as assault simply because that was the lonewolf meta in those games.
I honestly dont get revived less, get less ammo throw and so on in 2042 than in any of the old games.
The only difference I see is that the specialists have their abilities. Wasnt a fan og that at first but I have gotten to a point where I actually like the abilities because of the variety they add to the flow of the game.

@BizzyVapingSame here i wasn't a fan of specialist before experimenting with them . But for a long time i wanted Dice to get rid the the traditional forced loadout for us .. It only made ppls play the wrong class for the wrong reason
- 4 years ago@Stew360 I had some random guy repairing my tank today… in conquest of ages. Old class system is better
- 4 years ago@cornybbq2 Thanks for the anecdote but i have hundreads of anecdotes from past battlefield that are pretty comon that goes against this premise .. Like standing in front of a support guy spamming " I NEED AMO " for half an hours blocking his view to never gets amo from him ..
Or going near an engineer hopping to get repair spamming the request in Chat and with comrose to never gets repair and only see that clown shooting rockets at infantry instead of tanks and APC ,.. Or seeing an entire team taking 90% recon to camp in hills or even in the out of combat zones in orders to boost their KD and never worked objectives and so on and on and on .. SO no Classes system was not better- 4 years ago
@Stew360There will always be players that don’t care… but as a teamplayer, when you get dropped into the right squad with the right people battlefield shines at its brightest. Its absolutely brilliant to play.
With the 2042 system you can’t even see who’s carrying what in your squad… not even the level they’re at + no voice chat! That makes it extremely difficult to adjust your loadout to the situation, while this should be made as easy as possible to generate good teamplay.

@Man_iLoveFishing have you ever had a random repairing your tanks in other battlefield that were not in your squads ? Because i sure never had , but i did had some freaking randoms getting in my tanks while me and my buddy were reparing to make our tanks blow up 2 seconds laters because he stole it from us ... he enter my gunner spot and reuse to leave and my engi team mates cant get in anymore that happen 10000 times .. Being repair by randoms ? Yep never maybe once across 4 BF release@Stew360 Yes quite frequently actually I had randoms repair my tanks until BF2042. In fact until 2042 I had people generally reviving, throwing health, and ammo and even spotting. Sometimes it wasn't as often as I'd like but it still regularly happened. Now it seems most people run meta loadouts of weapons and gadgets that normally include an anti-vehicle loadout instead of ammo or health. Revives also seem to be far more rare than in previous installments when I play even with squad revive being maintained from BF5.
No Specialists are definitely NOT classes, they are heroes with no real pre-defined role often handicapped by the additional freedom that DICE gave them with COD's create a class system. Falck is the only Specialist that can even be loosely considered a class - the others have caused far more damage to the balance than they address such as McKay's grapple and Sundance's wingsuit completely destroying the predictable flow of Battle. Is it fun being a flying squirrel, definitely, but now you can have a McKay or a Sundance appear across the map or behind you (away from their squad mind you so further eroding teamplay) with no warning as they don't have to drive or run across the battlefield.
- 4 years ago@ragnarok013 flying squirrel lol love it

@Stew360 Yes many times and have done it myself as well. I also have played the franchise a long time, starting with BF2 and BF2142 when they came out. Repairing vehicles has always been a great way of leveling up your Engineer and being useful to the team at the same time. BF1 was the first game where I saw it start to tail off, but it still happened and did in BFV too.

@Rusty RatBF2 engineers can be exactly reproduced in BF2042 while BF3 engineers are still in portal . yet the bf3 fanatics want everyone to be forced to replay their memories in the base game instead of playing portal with the classes they pretend to want ..
BF3 engineers are BF2 demolitionist and BF2engineers mashed together ..
BF2042 only allow you to be either demolitionist or enginneers not both . Also since you cant kit swap on death body they introduced Angel crate drop allowing to switch loadout without dying wich is good .- Man_iLoveFishing4 years agoSeasoned Ace
@Stew360You are forgetting one thing, one is when you can reproduce, another is getting help from reproduced. <--- they don't exist.
"i have proofs in my videos, I get all repairs, health gaskets, ammo boxes all the time in 2042, more than in previous battlefields".
Dude. Maybe your squad mates {friends} that you game with most the time drop you them. Not to mention, it would be much easier to game with randoms if there was VOIP.
Free for all load mostly only means for playing alone and with no ingame communication makes even worse, so please think about it. Example, if I'm going in bf4 and join to random squad, I can at least try to lead squad and give some info.
Ever played csgo? So, free for all + no communication = poor teamwork. Quick math.
So, in my opinion older battlefields had it better.
- 4 years ago@Stew360 Battlefield 1 I´ve had many people repairing as support. 5 not so much but it happens. In 2042 it´s just not happening.
@MrJimBFAnecdotes are not representative of anything because from my experience across around 10 BF games ive been " repaired " maybe a dozen time by random players across thousands of hours played ...
IF ANYTHING most randoms usually saw me repairing my vehicle and see it as an opportunity to stole my vehicles or pick my gunner friend seat and refused to get out while we were repairing our own tanks or helicopters .Its why planetside 2 is so great for this you can lock your vehicles and kick out undesirable from it
Also in BF2042 i almost always get pick up when an Angel or Falk are around while in past BF medic would run over my death body looking for their next kills and would let me die there .. Support were never giving amo when asked 100 times and with Zero timer on amo trow unlike BF2042 wich suffer from a timer for amo and med crate trow
- 4 years ago@Stew360 All the time. Repaired others vehicles that were not in my squad either. One of the best things about BF was classes IMHO.
- 4 years ago@Cig_S0ur
Why dont you grab yourself a repair kit and do the same ? Its not as if you cant ..
Also BF2042 gadjet etc.. is much more like BF2 than it is BF3 and 4 wich is a good thing .. the engineers does it all repairing littlebird in the air and so on are gone and its a good thing for everyones- 4 years ago
I tried. Engineer has always been my preferred class. Tried doing the medic thing as well. Just doesn't feel like a Battlefield game to me.
Classes are part of it but I think there are many design changes in 2042 that focus more on the individual rather than the team. The game was much more immersive with generic soldiers rather than these "Specialist" with their corny personalities. Different factions with their own weapon sets also added to the immersion. No we have 30 Angels running around killing each other and every one of them running meta loadouts because specialist aren't weapon restricted. The whole thing just seems silly for a BF title, but that's my opinion.
Classes
Server browser
Persistent servers
Squad mechanics
VOIP
All these things, and I'm sure I left some out, in my opinion helped to promote team play in Battlefield titles and now they are all gone completely or to some extent. I know not everyone plays like I do but I enjoyed picking a class and sticking to the job expected of that class. I also felt Battlefield rewarded you for doing your job, you could score respectable points without focusing on K/D. Feels less effective in 2042.
Being able to stay in a server for several rounds and squad mechanics helped in finding that cohesive squad play I liked, even with randoms. Nearly impossible now.
Anyway, getting off topic a little.

@Cig_S0ur So why can't you equip a repair tool and repair all vehicles now? What is stopping you?
I can.
What's stopping me is that I don't enjoy the game like I did past Battlefields. DICE removed too much in their attempt to move Battlefield towards a "Hero shooter". In my opinion the game is trash.
Is that a more direct answer for you?
So...to be clear...you're saying that you've never had a person on your team that wasn't in your squad repair a vehicle for you? I'm going to stop paying attention to you now. You're clearly not as experienced in this franchise as you claim to be.
- 4 years ago@SG_Steppa I had randoms reviving me , repairing , droping amo etc.. In 2042 as much if not more than all previous BF since 1942 . But the thing is lack of Voip proximity chat as well as squads only focus since bad company as created this squad individualism in many poeoples where they only care about their squads and not much about their team
