Classes gave me mini objectives and kept the in-between moments engaging.

@mesterKG I think it's that freedom that kills the team play element - Everyone can equip to any combination, which lessens the need to rely on your teammates; it feels like it encourages solo play rather than a type of team coordination.
Playing Support in previous titles, I've never really thought in terms of mini-objectives for resupplying unless my squad was attempting to do something specific: "I have a machine gun and unlimited ammo with my crate, but I'll need to rely on a medic or two if I get into a tough spot Hey, while I'm running by, that recon sniper looks like he could use some bullets! I'll drop a crate on the way to my new position". That said, if I needed a medic, I could easily spot one by using the class based system; there's currently no way to see who has a medpack to render aid.WIth the specialist system, I hardly saw an ammo or med box at all - I presume, based on some feedback I was reading in teh open beta forums, that everyone was equipping a combination of the armoured plates and rockets, because they could and it helped them score kills (not necessarily coordinating or pushing for an objective). I was also able to think, "Hey, I want to play as a sniper but I'll run out of ammo, so I'll have the specialist with a grapplingf hook, sniper rifle and an ammo box, that way I'll be almost entirely self-sufficient!".
In previous titles, I had people run up to me and request ammo - I played a part in their success because my class allowed it and they knew I had ammo, not because I necessarily actively chose to be a team player (though I'm all for playing the objective). That team based mindset was never realised in-game with this specialist based system. That said, yes, there were supports that ran around without ammo resupplies of any type, and it was frustrating to deal with :D- 4 years ago@LordXOne There are still some restrictions. You could not have a medic crate and ammo supply.. so still choices to be made. I understand the issue with finding who can give you ammo and I hope this can be shown in the ui some way.. though the ui felt cluttered already so I dunno. In bfv the friendly medics in proximity were highlighted if you requested healing via the coms.
I don’t think the team play from the beta can be counting for much. A lot seemed to just fool around, discovering stuff and trying to get some oib moments. And I think a lot didn’t realize everyone could revive team mates.

@mesterKG Sure, I still can and did do this in the beta. I usually play as a medic and would normally run around giving revives and med packs, but the feel was extremely off. I played almost 10 hours of the beta, and rotated back to other BF games and Warzone to get a good break/moment to compare. The level of reward for playing a specific role similar to the class system just was not there. By the end of the beta it felt like the only reason I was still playing was to give DICE another data point.
- kregora4 years agoSeasoned Ace@mesterKG Technically it took away a lot of options. The "Anti-Vehicle" guy now needs to choose one of RPG, SAM, C4, SLAM, MINE, there is currently only Boris, an Anti-Infantry Engineer and Irish, a Tanking Infantry Soldier. None resembles a BF3 or BF4 engineer, and neither do their perks fill in those roles.
- 4 years ago@mesterKG There's no teamplay, no coordination. BF was built on the aspect of classes. On top of that, most of the specialists in 2042 are goofy.
In 2042, if I want to play medic, I gotta play grandma or Angel's goofy *.
Let current specialists be elite skins or what have you and let us completely customize our character like in BFV.- 4 years ago
THE ESSENCE OF BF IS TEAMPLAY.
MEDIC NEEDS TO REVIVE, ENG FIX VEHICLES.. BUT WITHOUT LOCKED CLASSES (ONLY MEDIC REVIVE) THERE is no teamplay.
People do not care for this.. but with classes and limited loadout, maybe they will act as meant to be...
- CountSero4 years agoSeasoned Ace@RicksPvp do a step back mate look into the mirror than you see the person who is responsible for teamplay, yes you are and not a class.
If you don't participate in teamplay no class can help you there...
The problem is that to many players think that huge K/D is teamplay is the same but it is not the main goal is to play the objectives. That is what a round wins.
Specialist give you freedom of choice to build your own class and give you the freedom of choice to create every class\ role you want. Now every player can be even but it seems to me that some of the so-called veterans can't adapt the new playstyle and get wiped over and over again....
@davidgmccoy1 mate I can still speak for myself and I think the specialist system is a great evolution of the classes.
