Why would a server browser help? Everytime I look at the portal browser there are only 2 servers that are populated and both are hardcore. That's it!
Portal browser doesn't include the server instances for offical AoW or other official featured gamemodes. What people are asking for is to include all of those server instances in a server browser, so they can queue for a particular server and map.
It's never going to happen though. DICE/EA has been slowing shifting to 100% matchmaking starting with BF1. They have been slowing removing server browser features like advanced filtering and eliminating static servers.
EA/DICE want complete control. It allows things like SBMM to work better. It also gives them the ability to manipulate the matchmaking in order to promote microtransactions. e.g. put you with players who perform well and use a particular weapon/specialist, etc. Even if DICE/EA aren't doing this now. They want that ability. For those interested in the devious tactics surrounding this practice there are patents and whitepapers with more info.
I remember when folks were complaining in BF1 and subsequently BFV how the server browser feature was so limited compared to what we had with BF4's complex filtering capabilities. I remember posting in the old Battlefield forums (remember those?) in BF1 days that we would eventually see the complete removal of server browser.
