I presume you mean by the missions.
They do this to force people to get a taste of other specialists. You dont have to play them. They will also rotate guns using missions. I understand why they do it. Some of the guns I dislike, but if I want the 5 points, I have to complete the mission.
There are many XP farms in portal if you dont want to complete the mission for the points.
