Weapon freedom makes for more diverse gunplay. Restrict everyone to one category per class and you'll just start making threads about how one AR or one SMG is all you see people using and needs a nerf.
they locked gadgets. locking weapons to classes is now needed because people have no incentive to carry an ammo crate or med crate (i do see more med crates than ammo but still not enough)
put the meta weapons on the jobs that can carry stuff like in past games and they will carry it. additionally i'd give assault the ammo box and make it the class gadget (no i don't play assault)

There's plenty of incentive to carry ammo crates. infinite ammo, infinite grenades, and infinite underbarrel grenades. Why people don't like running ammo box on support is beyond my understanding when it's better than anything else.
