What problem would this solve?
Do you feel the class distributions are off? If so, wouldn't that problem be better addressed with a 'carrot' rather than a 'stick' approach?
If you feel support is being underplayed wouldn't it be better to simply make support more fun?

Nope. I like having AR while playing support. I dont want to be locked into a certain gun class anymore

I think the free weapon choice is one the few good things in BF2042. Personally I hope this will stay in BF in the future.
In earlier games (especially BF1 and BFV) some classes were pretty much 'shafted' on some maps, due to their restrictive weapon choices. Running a medic with a SMG on Hamada (/other big maps) in BFV were a joke, the same could be said for assault in BF1 with some of the maps.
Also weapons-restrictions gave some classes pretty big advantages, in the earlier titles (assault in BFV, medic in BF4).
The gadgets in 2042 were a problem, because everybody could run with a rocket-launcher, now things should be a little more controllable for Dice (not that they seem to be able "control" anything though).
